Maybe, for Barack Obama, it depends on what the meaning of the word is is.
When the president skittered back from his grandiose declaration at an iftar celebration at the White House Friday that Muslims enjoy freedom of religion in America and have the right to build a mosque and community center in Lower Manhattan, he offered a Clintonesque parsing.
I was not commenting, and I will not comment, on the wisdom of making the decision to put a mosque there, he said the morning after he commented on the wisdom of making a decision to put a mosque there. I was commenting very specifically on the right people have that dates back to our founding. Thats what our country is about.
Let me be perfectly clear, Mr. Perfectly Unclear President: You cannot take such a stand on a matter of first principle and then take it back the next morning when, lo and behold, Harry Reid goes craven and the Republicans attack.

George W. Bush understood this. And it is odd to see Barack Obama less clear about this matter than his predecessor. Its time for W. to weigh in.
This along with immigration reform and AIDS in Africa was one of his points of light. As the man who twice went to war in the Muslim world, he has something of an obligation to add his anti-Islamophobia to this mosque madness. W. needs to get his bullhorn back out. "
Heading should be Dowd, not Down. Back to the coffee pot.
Now were going to start hearing comments like “I’m not commenting on the wisdom of the President’s not commenting on the wisdom of the Islamic center...”....Perfect!
Ahem......RULES!
Why?
Zero doesn’t need any help getting buried by the rhetoric.
He’s doing a great job all by himself..
Besides, with the hatred by the left and some so called ‘republicans’ it would be a waste of time and breath..
Sorry, can’t spell yet, let alone link images.
'America be damned, it's my duty to promote my islam religion'
Trying to goad George Bush out of his quiet dignity to bash him one more time *for the good times*!!!!
MODO... do you have no shame?
Thank you. Took 13 posts for the rule to take effect. Shameful ;)
Poor Bush. He said a couple of stupid, conciliatory things about Islam because his advisors told him to do so, and this is going to be the thing that the left will invoke forever.
Mo wants Obama to be even more overt in his praise for Islam. There’s no way he can possibly do more unless he sets up a minaret on the White House. She’s crazy.
This is all about running interference for Bambi and trying to make Bush look as if he were the one who brought the Muslims to Ground Zero. Also, I think we’re going to see an attempt to criminalize negative comments about this mosque and perhaps about Islam in general - Pelosi has already asked for an investigation of people opposed to the Ground Zero Victory Mosque.
Hey, you had three posts here without a visual contribution!
This is so sweet, more liberal praise of Bush. Earth to Maureen Down : Muslims voted for democrats in 2006 and 2008 when Bush was president and I don't remember you praising him then either.
I will complement Bush on one thing, he is staying quiet and out of the limelight.
“Its time for W. to weigh in.”
-This is the entire purpose of the column. The left is hoping that W will come to the rescue of their traitor-in-chief. Sorry MoDo. W is not stupid. That talking point was always a leftist fabrication.
I’m tired of being the one to do it. If you post it,you must follow through.....
