Laird vs. Blakeslee-California 15th Senate District Special Election

I couldn't find a thread for this race so I decided to create one. I feel so empowered.

The race is tight so far at 0% to 0%

The last few days I have heard a lot of ads for Blakeslee and none for Laird. I have no idea what that means. Laird should win handily here in Santa Cruz, but I expect him to lose because there are too many rational people in Monterey, San Luis Obispo and San Benito Counties. Actually, I don't know if the district goes into San Benito County.

Woo Hoo! 61.9 to 28.3. Blakeslee jumps to an early lead.

Can you give a quick rundown on the candidates so we know who to boo and cheer and why?

Wow. While I was washing the dishes the race really got close.

Can you give a quick rundown on the candidates so we know who to boo and cheer and why?

John Laird is a standard Santa Cruz leftist tool of government employee unions. I know little about Blakeslee except that he has to be better than Laird. Supposedly the race has implications for the balance of power in the state senate, but I can't imagine that there is any danger of the rats losing their viselike grip on power.

This race is tracking very closely to the regular election back in June 22. Blakeslee got 49.40% to Laird’s 41.81%, with the other two clowns taking the balance. I don’t know why they didn’t drop them and make it a two man race.

Just went over 1/3 of the vote counted. Blakeslee still holding on with 49.3% to 43.0. It looks fairly safe lead.

“Can you give a quick rundown on the candidates so we know who to boo and cheer and why?”

Here’s Blakeslee on the issues - nothing to jump up and down about - but this is Coastal California (includes places like Santa Cruz, Monterey, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara), and Laird is worse.

http://www.blakesleeforsenate.com/on-the-issues.htm

With 57% of the precincts reporting, Blakeslee leads Laird 49.1-43.3. I’d say Blakeslee’s got it.

49-43%, 75% reporting, Blakeslee ahead.

He needs 50% plus 1 to avoid a runoff, though.

No, this is the runoff; a plurality wins.

And Blakeslee got it. 49%.

I didn't know that Laird had been specifically endorsed by B. Hussein Obozo. Let this be a harbinger.
