An egg recall is taking place upon recognition of a potential salmonella contamination. Wright County Egg of Galt, Iowa said the affected eggs were shipped to food wholesalers, distribution centers and food service companies. Along with Minnesota, the recall affects Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Nebraska, Missouri, Colorado and California.
There have been seven confirmed cases of salmonella in Minnesota linked to the multistate recall of eggs produced by the Iowa company, said Dough Schultz, a spokesman for the Minnesota Department of Health. Four of those cases originated at the Muffeletta restaurant in St. Paul last month; the other three were traced to the Kingdom Buffet in Rochester in May, Schultz said.

The recalled eggs were packaged under the following brand names: Lucerne, Albertson, Mountain Dairy, Ralph's, Boomsma's, Sunshine, Hillandale, Trafficanda, Farm Fresh, Shoreland, Lund and Dutch Farms and Kemps.l
The eggs, packed in 6-, 12- and 18-egg cartons, have date codes and plant codes on the end of the cartons. Date codes range from 136 (May 16) to 225 (last Saturday). The affected plants' codes are 1026, 1413 and 1946. The plant number begins with the letter P and then the number. The date follows the plant number, for example: P-1946 223.

Great. My elderly dad is sick in another state. I made him and my mother potato salad with lots of hardboiled eggs when we visited last week. It was with one of those brands.
Would the salmonella survive the boiling of the eggs? If anyone knows, please chime in. I am an ultra-clean, germaphobe, BTW.
He has fever, sore throat, chills, fatigue, etc.
“Would the salmonella survive the boiling of the eggs?”
Hard boiled, no.
You’re okay with hard boiled.
I wish your Dad well.
Wish your dad well
the sore throat does not sound like salmonella but I am not a doctor.
Thank you. They’ve been under a lot of stress lately, tree falling on the house, basement flooding. Lots of stress. I hoped it wasn’t my potato salad!
yikes. I wish them well.
I doubt it was your salad.
There’s been an upper respiratory & bronchitis producing bug going around.
The mayo was good date-wise. I’m just really worried because of the state of circumstances lately. I need for dad to be well for my mother’s sake. Thanks for your good wishes. :)
That’s reassuring to know. I figured from his symptoms that it was a virus, but at 77, it’s so hard to tell from a distance. We’re 3 1/2 hours away from them. I hate that. My mom’s confined to a walker and can’t even go to the bathroom without my dad lifting her up. It’s so hard.
Just sent a prayer for them. The devil is mighty busy.
That’s tough. I understand.
All the king’s horses and all the king’s men...
My elderly parents are sick with what sounds like the same virus. It seems to be going around. My husband & I were sick with salmonella once many years ago... what my parents have is definitely not it!
IIRC, and I hope someone will correct me if they know, the primary danger is from stuff on the shell. I was told the eggs themselves will last quite long, and to use bleach on the shells.
I use raw eggs in shakes, so I hope this is correct.
:)
The shells are very porous.... don't want eggs that have been laying in anything.
Finally, don't be afraid of fresh eggs, just be sure to wash them properly & cook them thoroughly.
Prayers offered up for you, your mom and dad, my FRiend.
When my parents ceased being able to really care for themselves, I hired 'Visiting Angels' - in our case it was pricey, because a live-in caregiver was warranted, but such agencies offer hourly help - on any schedule desired, day or night - at surprisingly reasonable rates.
