I can’t see that at all. I think she has straightened out a lot of people’s thinking. I think she’s great.

You can marry base on whatever criteria you want. Mom and Dad have no more insight over how well it works than a hobo.

“The time for Daddy and Mommy to be the final say should come back.”

Not even in India do parents have the final say any more. They do suggest, and often children agree.

Dr Laura is losing it. Is she mentally depressed?

It’s hard to believe this is the same tough cookie who slept her way into talk radio, and then had a great success with her hard-nosed “do as I say, not as I do” advice.

You and Hillary both think marriage is slavery.

I heard Dr. Laura say that a married man should *always* take the highest paying job even if hr would be happier in a position that pays less. To me, she’s saying that men are economic slaves. Who cares if they come home stressed out or has to spend weeks on the road - just so long as he’s cranking out the bucks. That’s a very materialistic view of matrimony.

It’s a basic truth that a man has to support his own family.

Of course it is but it doesn’t mean he has to take a job that will make him miserable just because it pays better. That’s what she’s saying. If a man had a choice between:

$50K a year where he has to work late, make frequent trips out of town and is generally frazzled by the time he comes home

or

$40K a year where he feels fulfilled in his job and gets to spend more time at home with the kids,

Dr. Laura has said he should take the $50K job.

I don’t see where that’s right or even her place to say that and I can only assume it comes from a viewpoint where men are walking ATM machines and little else. That’s what I mean by economic slavery.

If the $10K difference was THAT important to the wife, she can find a part-time job or work-from-home. She doesn’t have to assume that it’s all the man’s responsibility.

In most cases, the man will take the higher-paying job anyway but I don’t think it’s her place to claim he *must*.

Proof you have never listened to her show is in bold. That is completely misrepresenting her point and would never be something she would suggest - everything she says is for the benefit of children, who are at the behest of their parents' decisions.

Maybe not all Mothers and Fathers but age breeds wisdom and experience and their opinion is valuable. As for marrying under any criteria you want, that would be why we have a 52% divorce rate.

Unfortunately you are exactly right. You can marry for any inane reason you want. That doesn't make it a good thing.

“The time for Daddy and Mommy to be the final say should come back.” What makes you think in this society, the parents are any more sane? I’m seeing 50 year old women sporting new tats and boyfriends and the men are obsessed with their toys and their Viagra fix.

Of course you are correct that age doesn't always solve childishness, but because of sin we don't have a perfect world. The Bible says "honor your Father and your Mother" for a reason and talks about the "wisdom of the Grey head." Nothing is perfect, but I can assure you that on balance, 50+ year old Mother's and Father's have more sense than those under 30 who have found their "soulmate."

Nothing is perfect, I was just espousing the idea that Mom and Dad need to have a more active role than they do.

You do realize that they called Dr Laura, she didn’t call them?
