PHILADELPHIA New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg traveled Tuesday to Pennsylvania to endorse Democratic U.S. Senate hopeful Joe Sestak, bringing along with him the politically volatile controversy surrounding the proposed mosque and cultural center near Ground Zero.
Bloomberg and Sestak, speaking under a blazing sun in the parking lot of a shopping plaza, responded to a flurry of inquiries from reporters and at least one member of the crowd about their position on the proposal to build an Islamic center two blocks from the site of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
Dr. Robert B. Sklaroff, a physician sitting in the audience who has been outspoken on the mosque issue, asked Bloomberg to respond to comments from one of the projects organizers that Sklaroff described as anti-American. As he started to ask a second question about the controversy, the crowd began to boo him.

Of course he wants to win, and knows he needs every possible New York vote he can get...the Pennsylvania vote just won't be enough to put him over the top.
Funny, I was listening to NPR today and they never mentioned this.
