Final Execution Tuesday in Ertman-Pena Deaths

HUNTSVILLE, Texas - One of Houston's most notorious killers is expected to be executed Tuesday at 6 p.m. in Huntsville. 35-year-old Peter Cantu appears to have no appeals left.

It will be the last of the executions related to the murders of 14-year-old Jennifer Ertman and 16-year-old Elizabeth Pena in 1993. Despite being the leader of the murderous gang, Cantu has lasted longer on death row than his co-defendants.

Cantu has spent 17 years on death row; that is longer than either of his victims lived, and almost 7 years longer than the average stay on death row.

Cantu was the leader of the Black and White gang that was initiating a new member in a wooded area near T.C. Jester Park in June 1993.

Tragically, the teenage girls walked through the woods that night on their way home. They became the victims of the six young men.

Ertman and Pena were brutally raped and murdered. The details that emerged of the crimes horrified the entire city of Houston.

One of the six was sentenced as a juvenile, but five separate juries sent five of them to death row for the crime.

He plead guilty and said he was ready to be executed and would not appeal. Then, one month before his execution date, that no-good organization, Amnesty International, made a call on him and THEN he decided to exercise his appeals. And so he sits on Death Row, with no execution date. The little boy he murdered was the sweetest child you’d ever know. This man is scum.

There have been at least two others, Jose Medellin and Derrick Sean O’Brien. My mom ended up on the jury panel for O’Brien. Once she realized what the case was, she told the lawyer that she had already made up her mind and was dismissed.

I remember this case well as a kid. May all those involved in this horrible rape, torture, and killing of Jennifer Pena and Elizabeth Ertman rot in Hell along side with Jeffrey Dahmer, Seung-Hui Cho, 9/11 Terrorists, Adolf Hitler, and Joseph Stalin.

The details of this torture-rape-murder are so horrifying, the lack of remorse so chilling. I did a google search and found this letter by murderer Peter Cantu written in 2005, not one word, not one gesture of repentance for the detestable crime he committed.

That's what is so unspeakable. You would think that after 17 years, with much opportunity to think and much opportunity to communicate, and with his inevitable death upon him, something would turn his heart over. Now he's dead, and the horror that was coming for him, has come.
