I understand “Hagia Sophia” and “The Dome of the Rock” but what does “Park51” refer to?

Or did you know that and wonder why they chose that name?

It’s actually the former name “Cordoba project” that was such a reference:

“The Cordoba Mosque was the third largest mosque complex in the world ... built on the site of a former Christian church, to commemorate the Muslim conquest of Spain. This perpetuated a cultural Muslim practice of building mosques on the sites of historic conquests.”
