Sharif El-Gamal is the developer behind the plan to erect an Islamic community center and mosque two blocks from the World Trade Center site.
Calls are mounting for him and the other backers to find a new home for their center, further away from the site of the September 11th terrorist attacks, but El-Gamal isn't budging.
He is sticking with his plans to erect a 13-story center and prayer space in Lower Manhattan. He likens the project to a YMCA or Jewish Community Center, with programs open to all residents of all faiths.
"A landmark, an iconic building that will have people come and visit it from around the world,” said El-Gamal as to what he imagines. “This looks like it is going to be the most famous community center in the world."

"Park51 is a community center. It is two blocks north of the World Trade Center site,” said El-Gamal. “In New York City, two blocks is a great distance. There are some buildings in New York that have their own zip codes. There is such a scarcity of space in New York, especially in Lower Manhattan. Keep in mind this is a small island, so we are nowhere near the World Trade Center site."

Of course, the project got a boost from the White House last weekend when President Barack Obama spoke strongly in support of the developer's right to build the center. El-Gamal says he heard the president's remarks while he was on his way to East Hampton. He says he was blown away.

If every NY’er who walks by the site would throw a piece of bacon or sausage onto the site, dogs would be attracted and the combo of pork/dogs should make the site “unholy” for islamic purposes.
the ONLY question will be: Will the DOJ under Obama/Holder file a civil rights suit against them for finding hundreds...even thousands...of minor violations, one at a time.

In almost all cases I am on the side of property rights but this isn’t a normal case. Islam is not a religion but a dangerous cult and a true Muslim cannot be a true American and should not be given the same freedoms as a citizen to build what they want where they want it. They are enemy aliens.

This is very true. They actually do see themselves as belonging to another "country," the "House of Islam," complete with its own legal and political system. This is not a religion, strictly speaking; the religion is just the window dressing for the Arab supremacy cult that is behind Islam.

Is it me, or does it seem "coincidental" that NYC is experiencing such a large increase in the Muslim population...and...the return of the bedbug population at the same time? Just asking. I heard CNN is infested with them.
I would think it highly unlikely that there are “many Muslims” nearby, but even if there are, they can do what everybody else does in NY if there’s no church nearby, get on the subway and go to their place of worship.
However, as regards your point about an increase in Muslims, a friend who was recently in a small town near Albuquerque told me that a huge mosque was built there recently - after the town had suddenly filled up with Muslims. They were all there for awhile, did mysterious things in the giant mosque, and then suddenly they picked up and left en masse. Only a few remained to keep the mosque going.
So yes, I’d say it’s very possible that they are moving their “troops” around to establish these mosques by making it look as if there are huge numbers of Muslims. Of course, with our new Muslim-friendly immigration policy (put in place by Bambi by an administrative act the month after his inauguration) there are probably thousands of additional Muslims arriving here every week.
Do they count the ones within two blocks of it as being "nearby"?
