"Worst environmental disaster in the history of mankind!!!!"

To paraprhase the little kid int eh "Egg management fee" commercial, what does that even mean?

It is obvious now that the popular media is an existential threat to mankind, They propagate and nurture ignorance so fully that I really don't think mankind can survive as long as morons are allowed to spew their crap, unadulterated, 24/7.

My analysis from the get-go was something like this; The earth is 8000 miles in diameter. The idea that drilling a 1 foot diameter hole a couple of miles into the crust could release something that would cause widespread destruction defies common sense.

Well, besides the fact that the diameter of the Earth is 25,000 miles, not 8,000, the logic of your analysis is a bit wanting.

Comparing the size of the hole to the size of the Earth is, well, irrelevent. It's what's coming out of the hole that matters.

You are a 180 lb man who owns a yellow car who is hit by a piece of lead that weighs a quarter of an ounce - what possible harm could it do? Well, how about the fact that the lead is moving at 2500 fps?

You are a 180 lb man who took a vacation to Hawaii three years ago, infected by a virus that weighs 1/billionth of an ounce - what harm could it do?

You are a 180 lb man wearing a red shirt who just walked two blocks to get an ice cream cone that had a mere 1/4 ounce of strychnine mixed into it - what harm could it do?

You are an ocean on a 25,000 mile in diameter planet infected by a 1 foot diameter hole out of which oil is pouring at 25,000 lbs pressure for months. Chemical agents - banned for their toxicity in Europe - are poured into the leaked oil which break it up and make it soluble in water, and then a hurricane is able to lift the oiled chemical water and dumps it on five states, saturating the crops with the chemical, poisoning the crops and damaging the plants.

What harm could that do? The real question is - why hasn't it done that harm, besides there being no hurricane? In other words, where did all the oil go? One clue is that the chemical makes the oil sink about 20 feet down, so it still could be out there, now unskimmable from the surface, just waiting to be broken up by a storm and dispersed across the land.

The story was obviously exaggerated by the media, but the question still stands: the oil came out - so where is it now?

Every time some of us would post what REAL oil industry experts had told us we were called shills for the oil industry.

I was told multiple time that the oil was light crude unlike Valdez heavy crude and much of it would evaporate.

Sure there was destruction but it was closer to where the well exploded and not the ENTIRE gulf coast as was reported day after day with Obama being the biggest liar of them all.

I know if my livelihood had been destroyed by media/Obama hysteria I would be royally PO’d!

Where do these people go to get their livelihood back from these irresponsible fools who LIED about the spill?!

Let's not let Sean Hannity off the hook either. He said everyday that the oil was going up the Eastern coast.

I can barely take fifteen minutes of any of his shows any more. You can just make a list of his talking points and REPEAT THEM, that's his show.

The diameter of the Earth is a bit more than 8000 miles.

If you are going to try to correct somebody, at least try to be correct!

I don’t hunt much anymore, but my father brought my brother and I up right on that one. We were hunting quail and dove with the men when we were very young. And could hold our own with any of them when it came to filling the game bag.

But Dad was an armorer in Europe, and had/has a gun cabinet full. He hunted 47 of 54 days of quail season the last year I lived at home (before college). He always had a bird dog. He is 84 now, and the stuff going on in Washington infuriates him. He told me the other day that if they had a T-Party gathering in Abilene he might go. Never underestimate the old gray eagles.

You should have seen the look on his face when I showed him the Obama youth “sing for change” before the election. He saw Hitler Youth in Germany and he did not need a script to understand what was happening. We talk about this mess daily.

Yes, years ago I tried to find a copy of the book that I could afford. Finally located on in a used book store in St. Louis, MO and they wanted almost $50 dollars for it. I passed on that.

When I discovered “Project Gutenberg” ( http://www.gutenberg.org ) someone had already transcribed it to electronic format. A simple easy free download. That is an excellent site.

25,000 miles is the circumference of the earth not it’s diameter.

The earth is 25,000 miles in circumferance, 8000 miles in diameter. No offence, but if you don’t know that, I will have to take all your arguments with a grain of salt.

I haven’t got time to do a lot of math, but consider the bullet and the car. If you calculate the mass of the earth vs. the mass of the released oil, I promise that you will find that the true comparison would be more like my car being hit by a hydrogen atom or less. Regardless of the velocity both I and the car will survive.

As to where the oil is, common sense would suggest that the biosphere metabolized it.

Get back to me in a year. If there is any detectable effect at all remaining from this spill, I will stand at the front of the room and repeat “Oh what a fool I am.” 100 times.

It's the MSM's modus operandi: hype the fear and increase readers/viewers. Some examples include global warming, summer of the shark, swine flu, bird flu, west nile virus, white right-wing christian gun owners... and many many more.
