"Mo Steve Hassan," as he is known, founded the first American Muslim television network broadcast in English. His wife wanted him to develop "an American Muslim media where her kids could grow up feeling really strong about their identity as an American Muslim."
The audacity of this defense attempt is astonishing, considering he was served with divorce papers and protection order less than a week before she was beheaded, and police had responded to her calls for help previously, reportedly because of his abusive behavior over several years.

You can not make law based upon the exception, you can only hope and require juries of peers to recognize when a travesty of justice is going to happen, and to overturn it.
All too often we make exceptions in the law, to be somehow inclusive and enlightened. We somehow can read the minds of others with hate legislation, when in reality every mugger should be penalized the same.
And little by little, we erode our one singular safety net, that of jury nullification, where reasonable people can stand up and tell the law ‘no, it's not going to happen like that.’

His attorneys claim he's not even a practicing Muslim. So is it cultural? I think so. Only an American man would have no shame to claim a battered spouse defense. Maybe some Brits too.

I have difficulty recalling a time when a muslim didn't blame the victim.

...yes it is to us....but those 6th century brutes don’t see it that way at all...they feel perfectly justified.

If he gets the case moved to New Jersey, he could put up a Shariah law defense...

I have difficulty recalling a time when a muslim didn't blame the victim. She psychologically battered him by filing for divorce. It makes as much sense as a lot of other defense attempts ... let him run it by a jury.
Fortunately, he's not a member of a certain racial minority, or he'd be constitutionally entitled to a jury comprised of men who had killed or attempted to kill a wife or girlfriend because she left.

Why don’t we throw away any notion of “Cruel and Unusual” punishment when the crimes themselves are cruel and unusual.
Anyone who kills an innocent human by beheading is an animal of the likes that need to be... nay, SHALL BE exterminated.

Why not give it a try? Women use this excuse to get away with murder all the time, Mary Winkler being a good example.

Mary Winkler was married to an abusive narcissist. He kicked her in the stomach when she tried to pick something up off the floor. He was a worm, evil masquerading as a “man” of G-d.
