Christian Conservative Leader Calls for No More Mosques in U.S.
CBS ^ | 8/12/10 | Stephanie Condon

In the wake of the uproar over the mosque to be built near "ground zero" in New York, a prominent, controversial social conservative is calling for the prohibition of the construction of any mosques in the United States.

"Permits should not be granted to build even one more mosque in the United States of America, let alone the monstrosity planned for Ground Zero," Bryan Fischer of the American Family Association wrote this week on the AFA website. "This is for one simple reason: each Islamic mosque is dedicated to the overthrow of the American government."

Fischer is the AFA's director of Issue Analysis for Government and Public Policy. The AFA is a conservative Christian group that been in the news before for taking a number of extreme positions -- for instance, earlier this year Fischer called for Tilikum, the SeaWorld orca that thrashed its trainer to death, to be killed according to Biblical rules. In 2005, the AFA finally ended its boycott of Disney, which it kept of for nine years to protest the company's erosion of moral values.

I agree except I would like to see the Mosques already built dismantled.

Nor will I, True_Kon, but it simply does not appear to be in effect at this time.

I don’t want to run afoul of our constitution either, but at the same time, I want these murderous pig invaders the hell out of my country, and I don’t ever want them back here under any circumstance.

There is a difference between a theocracy and a religion. A theocracy is a political movement. A religion is a faith movement...it is about one’s internal beliefs.

Islam is a theocracy that has a layered AGGRESSION plan to subjugate peoples and nations. It subjugates to change the world.

Christianity is a faith that SPEAKS to others to change their personal belief system. It seeks changed hearts to change the world.

First Amendment? Freedom of religion? That’s funny.

How would a ban on Islam work, anyway? Would it be illegal to read or write the text of Koran? Would you be allowed to practice any part of the religion but not call it “Islam?” Or would any activity that could remotely be interpreted as “Muslim” be outlawed (meaning we’d have to rip all the carpet out of church sanctuaries)? Wouldn’t terrorists just go underground and practice the religion using codes?

It’s a can of worms best not opened. We shouldn’t let our emotions run away with us on this one.

This is ridiculous. Does the First Amendment not mean anything to this person?

Americans should be punished for the crimes of another country’s government? That makes perfect sense.

If the Pope was still condoning inquisitions, would America walk gingerly around that? Hell no!

How else would you deal with a cult that would use our liberties against us with a mind to obliterating all such rights as soon as they're able?

Don't tell me they won't - there's too much evidence to the contrary.

Persecuting American’s abroad for their religious beliefs is a causa belli. As is flying planes into our buildings screaming allah akbar.

You’re absolutely right.

To Christianity’s regret it has become involved with governments of all types in its long history...everything from aristocracies to democracies. But, that points out that Christianity has no preferred form of government.

Islam, as a theocracy, has a clearly preferred form of government, a caliphate. IOW, a dictatorship.

What makes “them” responsible for laws made by the corrupt government of their previous country?

I don’t know how we can get behind this while at the same time talking about the First Amendment. I am aware and very familiar with the danger of Islam spreading in the West, especially in the United states, but restricting other people’s religious rights is not the way to go. We can make sure that they don’t get preferential treatments. Or that they don’t blatantly build mosque at Ground Zero area because of the significance of the place. Or tightening the security by holding better filter of who can come here. However, not allowing them to build mosque is a bit too far.

If the federal government (the one headed by Obama, remember) had the power to outlaw a specific religion, I don’t think Islam would be at the top of the list. I suspect Mr. Fischer is simply playing to his audience.

"This is for one simple reason: each Islamic mosque is dedicated to the overthrow of the American government."

That being the case, then existing Mosques need to be razed.

I don’t intend to give up anything. But then I don’t belong to a death cult who’s preferred form of government demands those not belonging to that cult bare their throats to those that do.

Let’s do it!

I mean, look at how the Patriot Act and DHS turned out. Rooting out those former military guys, people with Gadson flags, and folks that talk about the constitution, shows how a piece of well-intentioned nonsense from D.C. can quickly be turned on us the moment the wrong people come to power.
