LAS VEGAS- In a circle in the corner of the Summerlin Costco parking lot, friends and strangers lit candles in memory of 39-year-old Erik Scott.
"There's nothing we can do to bring Erik back," yelled one speaker. "But, there is something we can do to change the system."
They stood shoulder to shoulder, firmly believing the West Point and Duke University graduate did not deserve to die. "I know Erik," said his friend Ivan Sher. "I know him really well. I know his disposition, and there is no possible way that what was represented could have actually happened."

never trust the police.
Right, I’ll just call my local neighborhood crackhead the next time my house is being broken into. Geez, get a grip!
We all have questions about this incident, but your comment is aliken as all posters on this site are worthless rubes because every so often a troll spoiles a thread.
Lets just keep up the pressure to get the whole story told. I agree the story about getting the video off the hard drives is a bit far fetched but not totally discountable. Remember, a conspiracy will fall apart when more than two people are a part of it.
Amazing to me. They had the 911 tapes within 24hrs. with the CT shooting, but then again the shooter was not a cop. And the tapes damaged????????? Give me a break!!! I have a feeling that this family has a lot of time, money and connections to pursue this....and I hope they do!!!!
Both of my brothers who are former cops say the same thing.
10-4. Human nature is something that is not put on hold for anybody, just look to our politicians for validation. Its more likely is not a bad cop situation in this case but it could certainly be one that was not trained very well.
That is the problem. I grew up with cops, the quality now is horrendous. I would say that 95% of the interaction I have had with police in my area has been extremely negative.
And yes, I am a worthless rube.
Right, Ill just call my local neighborhood crackhead the next time my house is being broken into.
Does your house get broken into frequently? If so, then I suggest you get a gun and a good alarm system. It will go a lot further to protecting your house than anything the cops will ever do.
Do you walk to work or carry your lunch?
I drive, typically. And every morning I pass by at least half a dozen cops on highway ticket revenue patrols for minor traffic offenses, though doing nothing that really contributes to the public safety. And from time to time they actually create a safety hazard themselves by parking in the middle of a busy lane of traffic while they write their tickets.
I give up. Sheesh.
I take HOV with a coworker sometimes and the cops that patrol it are especially prone to creating hazards. Some mornings they set up what is literally a checkpoint at the HOV exit ramps to screen each car. When they do it almost always backs up traffic for miles into the HOV lane behind it, thus completely defeating the purpose of having HOV in the first place. Not that they would care - each violator they catch is another $200 in the pocket, even though the vast majority of drivers who are affected by their patrolling tactics are following the law.
The boys in blue commit crimes when they ignore the illegal actions of their buddies. Maybe they need to arrest themselves.
Still haven’t seen those Costco videos of Scott “freaking out”, have we?
"Won't that destroy any evidence the theives may have left behind?"
"Oh that's ok, we're not going to look for any evidence. We'll just give you a report for your insurance company."
A couple of weeks later a neighbor spotted some creep breaking into cars on our block. He snuck up on him and smacked him across the back of the thigh with a baseball bat. He then made a couple of calls on his cell phone while the perp was writhing in pain.
Believe me our treatment was a far better deterrent to future criminal activity than anything the useless cops would have done.

Administrative complaints for a system that ties the hands of good officers behind their backs. Legal roadblocks are just other issues that keep them from doing the job they thought they were signing on for “Serve and Protect”.
So go after the cancer and not the whole body.
I live in a town of 25,000. If they were "good officers" they wouldn't put up with this sh**. Serve and protect? Now it's "Raise Revenue By Writing Chickensh** Tickets" around here.
Plenty of time for Seatbelt Enforcement but no time to deal with an actual property crime.
Feh on the cops. All they're good for is writing reports after the fact.
