House Democrats on Tuesday pushed through a $26 billion jobs bill to protect 300,000 teachers and other nonfederal government workers from election-year layoffs.
The bill would be paid for mainly by closing a tax loophole used by multinational corporations and reducing food stamp benefits for the poor. It passed mainly along party lines by a vote of 247-161.
Representatives scattered around the country and world for the August break were summoned back to Washington for the one-day session as Democrats stressed the need to act before children return to classrooms missing teachers laid off because of budgetary crises in the states.

Headline should read “Dems payoff to Teachers Unions before the mid-term elections”.

Do they read sign language.....cause I know come November, they will know how to read checked boxes..... =.=
Democrats hate the poor.
Wonder how these teahers feel about being an after thought. They had to come back to vote for this?
Where is this forest of money trees that have been so fruitful during the Obama administration?
Yeah, heaven forbid that the schools should have to make cutbacks.
I’ve been without full-time work for over a year now. Cockroaches like the teachers unions need to be SMASHED!
More madness...and expecting a different result.
I swear, Mr. Obama couldn’t close an umbrella.
Good Lord! What next?
Obama takes food money from the poor and hands to fat cat union teachers.
“The bill would be paid for mainly by closing a tax loophole used by multinational corporations and reducing food stamp benefits for the poor.”
Reducing food stamp benefits hold on that will never happen. They must have increased that in another bill.
Do you really think he cut food stamps?
I remember when $26 BILLION was a lot of money.
Children and the poorest hardest hit!!! Oh wait, it's the Demos doing this, not Repubs, so it's OK to be quietly reported (or not at all) by the LSM.
Never happen...ever.
President Obozo sure knows how to take care of his precious little union buddies - even at the expense of the poor.
As unfriendly as the US has become for business, how difficult and expensive would it be for them to completely divest themselves of the US and head for greener pastures now that one more incentive to remain a US corporation has been removed?
The hit they’d have to take is probably hard but with all of the uncertainty looming over them, I would think that many are looking at all of their options and weighing the cost/benefit.
We got of easy on this one. It could have been much higher and all this does is highlight even more how out of control the dems are with giveaways.
Rush talked about this today; it’s a “promise” to cut food stamps in 2014. Does anyone really believe they are going to cut anything out of food stamps in 2014?
The chicanery that the left tries to pass off for governance in this country is disgusting.
