First Lady Michelle Obama took a lot of grief for her decision to vacation in Spain last week, a glitzy getaway that prompted one New York Daily News columnist to liken her to Marie Antoinette. But now we're learning more about the trip, which, despite the furor over its alleged excess, seems to have been launched with good intentions.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times' Lynn Sweet, the first lady made the trip because she wanted to spend time with her best friend, Chicago physician Anita Blanchard, who lost her father this summer. Blanchard (who is married to President Obama's best friend, Marty Nesbitt) planned a Spanish vacation with her daughter and invited the first lady and her daughters to come along. Michelle, who missed Blanchard's father's funeral in July, agreed and brought along her 9-year-old daughter, Sasha. The first couple's older daughter, Malia, is away at camp.

Using one’s best friend this way does not come without cost to the relationship. Even if it was with Blanchard’s permission, a true friend would never have asked. It’s gotta stick in the craw.
Of course, it is possible that Blanchard is the one who came up with the stupid story (”Here, why don’t you use my dead daddy as cover?”) But, then, a true friend would never have accepted the offer. Like I said, they deserve each other.
Their Royal Highnesses do not like Camp David. It isn’t, well, royal enough for them.

My thoughts, too - she’s such a great friend but you miss her father’s funeral??? I call BS.
I guess if the funeral had been somewhere with 5star hotels, nice restaurants, and OUT of the USA, then she could have made it.

Gee, I thought her best friend was Jackson’s daughter. Seems odd to miss a funeral of someone that is so important. Even more so, who goes on a glitzy vacation when they are mourning?

Have the First Lady (who is “not” a politician) do something extravagant and worthy of criticism. Let it play for a couple/few newscycles, then suddenly “drop” the “real” story (human interest, sob variety) behind the extravagance.
Sit back and watch as a good-hearted American public falls hook/line/sinker for the sympathy play and the press falls all over itself trying to explain away it’s “bad” behavior.
People are too broke and too angry to care anymore.

There is a lot of talk now about Moochelle and her trip and the contrast to those of us who are not able to take such a lavish trip..and when he played the garbage from 0bama saying how much we were all going to have to sacrifice and have skin in the game...well remember during the campaign when Moochelle gave a speech and said to the effect “..... and when Barack is President, YOU will never be able to go back to your life as you knew it, etc...” And then 5 days before the election he came out and said “...and in just 5 days when I am elected, we will begin to transform this country....”
For people to say they didn’t know what the 0bamas were talking about,,,what they said is not what they are doing are full of prunes,,,they told the American public EXCTLY what they were going to do.

Barack Obama has wasted one of the greatest opportunities afforded a man in our world.
He is doing a racist gloat dance.

Why not go visit her friend at her house like everyone else.
Time to grieve and all that.
Don’t you think her friend would get home close the door and ball her eyes out because she had’nt grieved yet? ...and isn’t it cruel to drag a grieving friend on an international frolic just for press coverage.
