Cheney out of hospital a month after heart surgery
Associated Press ^ | 8-9-10

Posted on 08/09/2010 4:07:27 PM PDT by Justaham

Former Vice President Dick Cheney was released from a suburban Washington hospital on Monday following surgery last month to install a pump that helps his failing heart work. Cheney left Inova Fairfax Heart and Vascular Institute in Northern Virginia to continue his recovery at his home, according to a statement released by his office.

Cheney, 69, has had five heart attacks since he was 37 and suffers from congestive heart failure. He disclosed in a statement on July 14 that he had undergone surgery the previous week after what he called "entering a new phase of the disease when I began to experience increasing congestive heart failure."

Congestive heart failure—the heart weakens and cannot pump blood as needed—affects about 5 million Americans.

He must be close to setting a record for the number of heart surgeries.

Wow, he was much sicker than I thought. I wonder what exactly he had implanted. Thank the Lord he lives in 2010. Otherwise he would have died long ago.

I wonder what exactly he had implanted.

In liberal nightmares, it's one of those Stark Industries miniature arc reactors.

Was anyone listening to the Rush Limbaugh show today? Karl Rove was sitting in and twice implied that Rush was at a lunch/meeting where Cheney was. Cheney was mentioned twice.

Wow— Dicks ticker is a testament to the excellent HealthCare that has allowed him to live his life thus far.
In earlier eras Mr. Cheney may have already been flower fertilizer. Prayers for many more years Lord willing.

In retrospect, the Dr’s should have closed him up after the first surgery with velcro to make it easier for future surgeries.

With all due respect, Karl was just kidding about where Rush was.

Rush said he had a late-night event on one of the coasts (I forget which one) last night, and knew he wouldn’t be abble to do today’s show. He talked about it on Friday’s show, I believe it was.

An LVAD (left ventricular assist device). It helps the left ventricle pump blood out to the body. It's normally put in as bridge to a heart transplant, but it's being used as a permanent device sometimes. It's very portable and people can live a fairly active life with one.

My husband had a heart transplant in June. He was days from having an LVAD implant, when thank the Lord and a generous life-giving donor, he received a heart. An LVAD implant automatically takes a person off of a heart transplant list for a minimum of 90 days because the LVAD procedure itself is so invasive and debilitating. Our transplant team told us that an LVAD is more difficult, there are more complications and riskier than a by-pass or a heart transplant. I am hoping that the LVAD is being used as a bridge to a transplant for VP Cheney although his age is probably a factor. If and when he is placed on a transplant list, I am thinking it will be confidential for various reasons. I am stunned that the msm did not take the opportunity to explain the facts about LVAD, they missed a golden moment to inform and educate the public.
