Bachmann for president?
Politico ^ | 8/5/10 | Ben Smith

Posted on 08/08/2010 3:50:32 PM PDT by pissant

Democratic challenger Taryl Clark’s latest attempt to cast conservative icon Michele Bachmann as out of touch with Minnesota voters comes in a fundraising e-mail seizing on speculation that Bachmann has her eye on the White House:

Bachmann said she would run for president if she felt called to it, and said in another interview that it's not what she's doing "right now" - leaving the door wide open. She remarked recently to FOX News that her supporters want her to run for president. And Bachmann's multiple trips to Iowa prompted Politico to report:

"Bachmann has been receiving a little attention in conservative circles as a potential presidential candidate in 2012. And like so many other Republicans seeking a national profile, an early trip to Iowa, with its first-in-the-nation caucus, provides an opportunity to test-drive her presidential appeal."

Bachmann and Ryan are both rising stars, but if the 08 election proved anything, it was that you don’t elect people to the Presidency who don’t have executive experience. It was no coincidence that only twice during the 20th century, did the country see fit to elect a Senator directly to the Presidency. (Harding and Kennedy) Americans, it seems as a rule, elected Vice Presidents, Governors or Generals, and they did so for a reason; LEADERSHIP! The Presdiency is not an entry level position as we’re now finding out the hard way.

I think Americans will be very hesitant to elect a member of either House of Congress to the Presidency next time around. IMO, that’s why Gov. Palin will be the favorite, followed by more big gov’t types like Pawlenty and Romney. Gov. Jindal’s the sleeper (if they ever work out the “Natural Born Citizen” issue) and boy would I pay money to see Gov. Jindal debate Pres. Obama on Health Care.

I like Jindal/Ryan, myself. Those are two candidates, they CANNOT label as lacking intelligence.

I’d love to see her run in 2012. She’s amazing. How about a Bachman/Christie ticket? WHOO HOO! I feel a tingle going up my thigh.

Sorry, Palin's walking out on the governorship will be her undoing no matter how anyone tries to defend it. It will be used against her and rightly so, I think.

I’d love to see a Jindal/Bachmann ticket, but not the other way around. I’d rather not see a woman as president, as long as there is a man to fill the bill. But if the only male choice is Romney, I’d vote for Bachmann or Palin in a nanosecond.

I don't have anything against Bachmann. She is an amazing Christian woman and is a much better communicator than Palin (when giving interviews).

This article is simply designed to get conservatives into a pissing match about which woman is better, that's all. Just the usual liberal media pulling an issue out of its ass and then saying it's a "Controversy that may doom the GOP ticket."

LOL. If that's the case, anything she says would have been discredited and she would be ignored.

Nice try repeating the leftist meme. Fail.

pissant The leadership of the GOP is basically Bachman-Palin Overdrive...the GOP men are spineless.

I beg your pardon. You're not paying attention. Already on this thread Ryan has been mentioned and they come any bolder than my congressman, Steve King.

As a matter of fact, Bachman has touted King for president.

Bachman for President and the left would go into convulsions if Sarah was her Chief of Staff!

Being a resident of the 6th District of the Great State of Minnesota, I am proud to say that she already HAS my vote.

Bachmann is a legislator, not an executive.
We need an executive in the WH.
There is only one example of a senator beating a governor in a run for the White House, and there is no example of a senator defeating a sitting president in a run for the WH. There is also only one example of a Congressman winning the WH - and that was 150 years ago, and he didn't win a majority of the popular vote.
If we could have managed to nominate a governor last time, chances would have been much better that we wouldn't be in this pickle.

ditto. Not sure why some are playing the experience card with Palin. Once 2012 comes around Obama will have had more executive experience than Palin so that’s not what the election is going to be about.

Put Christie at the top and let Bachmann be the pit bull veep. Then 4 or 8 years later she can run on the top of the ticket.
