I too am a former Eagle Scout. . .but I think the reaction of the Scouts to Obama’s snub is not the whole story. . .his most heinous crime against the Boy Scouts is his REFUSAL to sign the document that is awarded to all new Eagle Scouts to certify their achievement. The Eagle Scout certificate has been signed by every sitting President since the inception of the BSA. It is a far greater slap in the face, in my opinion, than not appearing in person to speak at the jamboree, which is bad enough. Of course, the issue is this President’s deep ties to the LGBT constituency, for whom he had no problem to show up and speak at their convention.
not former. . always an Eagle. . my bad
I wasn’t aware that he was dong that? How truly classless!Perhaps the next President will take the time to sign all of the ones who earned it during this term so they won’t be blank.
My certificate was signed by John Kennedy and was awarded to me the day after he was assassinated. The Court of Honor had been scheduled to be held that Saturday several weeks in advance in order to accommodate the travel plans of relatives and the decision was made not to cancel it.
The tragic event combined with the timing of the award causes my certificate to serve as a constant reminder of the fragility of life.
It hangs on my office wall, and has been the topic of many conversations.
wow, no wonder he didn’t show up, he knew he would not get a welcome reception.
Snopes rates that rumor untrue.
Lets not forget when at the democrat convention, the boy scouts carrying the colors were booed by those democrats at the convention.......
Obama is signing Eagle Scout certificates. There are boys in my son’s troop who have received their Eagle Scout certificates with Obama’s signature.
It is an urban myth/legend that Obama is not signing them.
It is true that for the first fifteen months or so after President Obama was inaugurated, the White House never 'authorized' his signature on certificates for Eagle Scouts (or Quartermaster or, presumably, Silver Awards for Venturing).
That changed in late spring or early summer of this year when his signature was added. Scouts earning the rank of Eagle BEFORE that time had a blank above President Obama's signature.
However, he's NOT the first President to do this.
President Clinton didn't sign certificates for quite a while after taking office . . . and when he agreed to sign them, the White House 'requested' that the standard certificate be changed so that it could be signed not only by the President of the U.S. (the honorary President of the BSA), but also by Hillary Clinton. Yep.
