Bad news for Dem frontrunner for Byrd's Senate Seat

At the tail end of a week that saw a pile up of bad news for the Democrats on the ballot this fall comes this news item from West Virginia Watchdog:

Gov. Joe Manchin‘s office confirmed today that state government officials have been contacted by the U.S. Attorney's Office this week regarding an ongoing investigation. The target may be Manchin himself, according to a source who asked to remain anonymous.

Democrat Manchin is the front runner to replace the late Senator Robert Byrd in November's special election. Another story reported that:

Manchin spokesman Melvin Smith would not comment Friday on which officials were contacted, or what was requested.

But Smith did say that investigators haven't said that the governor or any other state employee is under investigation.

According to this from West Virginia Watchdog

The subpoenas asked for contracts and records for businesses that have done work at the governor's mansion as well as provided services for parties there. The investigation is into whether Manchin has complied with bidding and state contract requirements.

Those documents do tend to indicate Governor Manchin could be the target

Why should a 95 years old Democrat suddenly file his candidacy for the U.S. Senate in the August 28 primary?

1. As a long-time opponent of Mountain-top removal, I want to give an opportunity to the thousands of opponents of mountain-top removal to register their opposition by casting their ballots for me.

2. I believe it is a violation of our time honored system of free elections for one individual to anoint himself as an uncontested winner.

Poor Werner von Braun - he thought the nazis were corrupt swine until he had to deal with this featherbedding, pork chasing scum. They look like used car salesmen. Von Braun pretty much launched the space program through Walt Disney. The USA put he and his engineers on dry ice and Werner lobbied American doing Disney shows.

I know an incredible engineer who worked with him on something for NASA. He was very bright and probably would not suffer these idiots when he was running the show at NASA.

He was there as a member of the House Committee on Science and Astronautics. I don't know if that translated into any WV pork.

Hechler looked older than Truman in that picture. Hechler was theone WV politician who could refer to Robert Byrd as “that kid” right up until Byrd’s death.

I am not placated. Perhaps I would be if the perps all went to prison, but these show trials and slaps on the wrist are all a bunch of hooey, a mere pretense of draining the swamp.
