Bad news for Dem frontrunner for Byrd's Senate Seat
The American THinker ^ | 8-7-10 | Rosslyn Smith

Posted on 08/08/2010 7:55:15 AM PDT by afraidfortherepublic

At the tail end of a week that saw a pile up of bad news for the Democrats on the ballot this fall comes this news item from West Virginia Watchdog:

Gov. Joe Manchin‘s office confirmed today that state government officials have been contacted by the U.S. Attorney's Office this week regarding an ongoing investigation. The target may be Manchin himself, according to a source who asked to remain anonymous.

Democrat Manchin is the front runner to replace the late Senator Robert Byrd in November's special election. Another story reported that:

Manchin spokesman Melvin Smith would not comment Friday on which officials were contacted, or what was requested.

But Smith did say that investigators haven't said that the governor or any other state employee is under investigation.

According to this from West Virginia Watchdog

The subpoenas asked for contracts and records for businesses that have done work at the governor's mansion as well as provided services for parties there. The investigation is into whether Manchin has complied with bidding and state contract requirements.

Those documents do tend to indicate Governor Manchin could be the target

Sure hope Manchin was never a member of the KKK.

How long will it take for the DOJ to put a lid on this?

Manchin will be fine. The 400 strong Journolist will not report on his investigation.

You could be right about that. Right about now, the Dems themselves should find themselves caught up in the same fears that they try to visit on everyone else.

Just wait until the first Great Purge.

I would like to see some new polling in this race. At the very least, the federal investigation removes the sebse of inevitabilty one got from Mabchin’s candidacy.

Wouldn’t it be a hoot if Manchin’s corruption, combined with his lack of support from moonbats, caused him to lose the primary to the 96-year-old Hechler?

Yeah I mean the Justice Department and the courts are totally corrupt. It is not about enforcing the laws anymore it is about taking out opponents.

As long as these investigations take and with the election only a few months away I don’t see how it will make any difference.

Red herring completely.

Months are required in this kind of investigation. And if you look hard enough....there’s this mention of the state highways department. I’m guessing some folks won bids for projects at a certain price and other folks came to realize their bid was less yet the state government selected the more expensive price. So when the objections came, the Feds were stuck because it’s obvious that bids were rigged. If the Feds try to just pretend it didn’t exist...they’d be in for rough treatment by the press.

Someone will have to take the fall here, and it won’t be Manchin. Plus, his pick for ‘temp senator’ had no position or authority in this decision...so he’s safe.

It would indeed.

Obviously Democrats do not care if their leaders are corrupt criminals.

Nothing will come of it and in the end it won't matter. Remember, these are ‘Rats we're talking about, and this kind of thing is a resume-enhancer. It will only matter if people hear about it and if they care about it. I don't see either happening.

Please no more calls we have a winner! This investigation by the Holder inJustice Department is a warning shot to Joe Manchin that we can and will take you down if you don’t play by the Chicago rules. Manchin with the local media’s help plays up the “conservative maverick = I’ll do what’s best for West Virginian” such as voting against cap and trade, etc. With this investigation in process, this will dampen the Democrat enthusiasm for the front runner, and send a message to all Democrats running in their primary, you play ball with with Rahm, Holder, & Obama or you go to prison. This is about a local building contractor working on the Governor’s Mansion’s without an open bid.
Does any remember Alaska’s Senator Ted Stevens?

There is also speculation that Jay Rockefeller and Manchin don’t exactly see eye to eye and that Rockefeller would much rather have Carte Blanche (aka Goodwin) continue in the position. He’s much more malleable than is Manchin.

That is exactly right, too. Carte (Blanche) Goodwin is the hand picked man, not by Manchin but Rockefeller. Goodwin’s wife is Rockefeller’s Senate State Director. A very incestuous bunch of criminals. John Raese (R) is the real deal, a Tea Party conservative type guy. He is our people. Please pray for his win. We need all the guys like him in office to turn our ‘ship of fools’ back to a Constitutional Republic.
