Danish drivers stumped by secret rules
The Telegraph ^ | 8/6/2010 | Bruno Waterfield

Danish drivers have protested after Copenhagen ruled that large sections of its traffic rules were secret in defiance of rulings that wardens must explain why they have issued parking tickets.

Traffic wardens in Denmark’s capital have refused to tell parking offenders what rules they broke.

Following numerous complaints from motorists the Danish Broadcasting Corporation requested and received a 110 page document spelling out how traffic wardens should behave and how and when they should issue tickets.

But key sections of the guidance, including the pages concerning the rules setting out the circumstances for issuing tickets, had been blanked out by the Copenhagen parking authority.

Traffic wardens claimed that if drivers became aware of the information they would lose respect for traffic law and probably try to work around the rules.

The parking authority also insisted that it wanted to prevent wardens getting into long or semantic arguments with motorists about the small print of regulation.

Finally, the authorities declared that parking rules were “exempt” from freedom of information laws because “it is necessary for the protection of significant considerations regarding the implementation of public control”.

The “secret” rules are thought to relate to information on recommended observation times for wardens, advice on how to make the judgement for issuing a ticket and the required positions of parked vehicles.

The authorities have ignored a ruling from Hans Gammeltoft Hansen, Denmark’s parliamentary ombudsman, who said the rules “did not justify secrecy”.

Traffic tickets issued by cops for secret violations?

So they won’t tell you why you got the ticket?

Well... Over here the cops just taze you for asking why you are being stopped...

Hey, that’s nothing. We now have an entire health care system based on thousands of pages of secret rules.

Eventually, all this control will lead to big trouble. People can be beaten for so long before they snap.

What the hell is going on with the world’s bureaucrats?

Have they all lost their minds?

Yes it is.

In the future all laws will be secret. We already have a legislature that admits they don't read the laws before voting them into existence. For the sake of efficiency they can dispense with having them written in the first place.

"In the future all laws will be secret."

Sounds like old/new Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.

Everything is illegal. The state arrests you when they want to.

Like the Soviets or a Franz Kafka book. I think that’s where it’s all headed. Not just for arresting dissidents but for everything. Bureaucrats will just make it all up ad-hoc. 0bamaCare is basically just that. 2,000 pages that are just a bare-bones framework for tens of thousands of pages of regulations. Who writes those? Nobody. When they want something to be so they say it is so.

The F’ing parking Nazi’s in Europe are almost all minorities; all have class issues; and many get paid on a commission. Parking tickets range from $80 for a simple violation, to $150 for parking in a handicap, no parking zone, or to near a corner or a cross-walk. If you are off by a foot, they will give you a ticket. Your wheel outside the yellow line, they will give you a ticket. Everywhere you go, and in all pay to park locations, parking Nazi’s go around and continually check you time stamp, take pictures and send tickets in the mail. 2 minutes over? Too bad asshole. Ticket. Fail to pay? First warning a $50 increase. Still don’t pay? $500 dollar court fee on top of that. Have as complaint? Pay first, then submit your complaint. If they find an error they will repay your money. Complain first without paying? Even in writing? See steps 1 thru 3 above. I hate them!

Eventually, all this control will lead to big trouble. People can be beaten for so long before they snap.

North Korea provides a perfect example of apparently endless beatings and the sheeple accepting it. The problem isn't the beatings, which may freely continue until morale improves, but that the beater can never take a break once it starts. The moment there is a break in subjugation, that's when the beaten populace snaps. The break causes the snapping, not something inherent in the populace that causes them to rise up in response to too much beating.

Parking officers ie, Meter maids are not the brightest bulbs to begin with. Here in Dallas I have been cited 4 times so far for”Blocking a driveway” It's not a driveway and each time the ticket has been dismissed. This has been systematically going on every few months from the same “officer”. I'm starting to think he/she is simply harassing me.

I hope the mayor of Copenhagen can explain things fast because otherwise it could lead to a vote of no-confidence in the Folketing (the Danish national legislature) and all heck breaks loose in Danish politics.
