It amazes me that movie makers would rather insult Republicans than get their money. What, is our money not as good as Democrats’? Is it our breath? Why don’t they want us at their movies?

I have never understood the bankability of Ferrell. To me, he's simply not funny. Period. +1
Almost every "comedy" film that I've endured over the last 20 years has been sophomoric, formulaic and banal. You can only find fart jokes humorous for so long.

I just came back from watching the movie with my son. We had a bunch of laughs over some of the scenes in the movie. A lot of the movie seemed contrived, but that may be part of the context. I actually had to read the article to be reminded about the brief insert about a picture of the movie antagonist with former President Bush, because it was over very quickly.
Mind you, we’d just driven from NYS to North Carolina on our way to South Carolina, in a car with no AC, and through the usual BS traffic in northern Virginia (when will they ever fix that?)so I must say, I was beat and didn’t pick up on any anti Bush political overtones at all....
Oh well, my focus was on the Mark Wahlberg comedy dynamic, which was, in my opinion, not bad for the first time out.
Scene stealer: Michael Keaton. FWIW, he made the movie. Of course, Eva Mendes wasn’t hard on the eyes either....
I notice now, that the article does not mention the data picture about the Stimulus / TARP money that gets shown in the credits that paints a pretty UN-Rosy picture about the current administration, which is way more damning than that 1 second picture of former President Bush.
And those credits and the show and tell about the funds the current administration have spent lasted for minutes. That was WAY more disgusting to me and totally took away the laughs I had during the movie.
As a matter of fact, based on what I saw, I would not be surprised to see Robert Gibbs have to issue a rejoinder in some future press conference rebutting that info....

LOL! I can’t go that far, but I have to say my daughter loves that movie. And she’s usually got better taste than that.
A Christmas Story is very much better.
I love Jean Sheppard, he was a liberal but with a grasp of reality. He must be rolling in his grave at what’s become of this country, esp. his side of it.

“More Cowbell” was funny due solely to the talents of Chris Walken.

After viewing some of Farrell’s work, I’d say the next funny thing he does will be his first.

Ono,
I agree completely - in fact, I came on here this morning and did a search of The Other Guys specifically to see if there were a discussion going regarding the AIG/TARP data presented during the credits scroll (we actually stuck around to see if there were any outtakes). It was very interesting and I would like to learn more. It would be nice to see this information packaged and validated in one concise format somewhere on the internet.
Yes, I will agree that WF's humor is tired and forced but well within the framework of subpar work in general that has been the product of SNL for the last 25 years at least. And I was curious to see how MW would do in a comedy, because I really like his work: He is a professional and delivers on what is expected of him (e.g., a plausible effort in an otherwise totally awful movie, The Happening, the film that totally exposed M. Night Shamalayan). The Other Guys has a lot of laughs, enough to warrant the cost of the movie - it is entertaining. A lot of WF's stuff is stupid, but we've come to expect that. In his defense, he does a surprisingly good job in a straight role in Stranger Than Fiction, along the lines of Adam Sandler (another one of those talent-challenged SNL alumni) in Spanglish - both films I would recommend.
And FWIW, I totally missed the W reference in The Other Guys. I consider that a blessing.
