(CNSNews.com) - Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina said that Jesuss Golden Rule inspired him to vote to confirm Elena Kagan to the U.S. Supreme Court and suggested it would be a good thing for his Senate colleagues to also ponder Jesuss words as they prepared to vote on Kagan.
It is divine in its orientation, and it is probably something that would serve us all well if we thought about it at moments such as this, Sen. Graham said on the Senate floor, as he pointed his colleagues to the Golden Rule and counseled them to look to the wisdom of somebody far wiser than I am as they cast their votes on Kagan.
As an associate counsel in the Clinton White House, Kagan was an architect of the legal and political strategy that President Bill Clinton used in vetoing the ban on partial-birth abortion. Her nomination by President Barack Obama in May was instantly endorsed by Planned Parenthood, one of the nations leading advocates of legalized abortion.
In casting his vote for Kagan, Sen. Graham said he expected her to follow a voting pattern similar to Justice John Paul Stevens whom she will replace. In his more than three decades on the court, Justice Stevens persistently backed the position that there is a constitutional right to abortion.
But at the end of the day, those of us in the Senate have to understand that every branch of government includes human beings and there is a rule that stood the test of time, said Sen. Graham in an August 3 Senate floor speech. I didn't make this one up. It was somebody far wiser than I am, somebody far more gifted than I ever hope to be, somebody I put a lot of trust in.
It is called the Golden Rule, said Graham. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. That is probably one of the most powerful statements ever made. It is divine in its orientation, and it is probably something that would serve us all well if we thought about it at moments such as this. "
Graham also said Kagan meets the test the Framers envisioned for a Supreme Court Justice.
I am going to vote for Elena Kagan because I believe constitutionally she meets the test the Framers envisioned for someone to serve on the Court, said Graham. I don't think the Framers ever envisioned Lindsey Graham from South Carolina voting no because President Obama picked someone who is clearly different than I would have chosen.
Sen. Graham was one of only five Republicans to vote to confirm Kagan to the Supreme Court. The other four were Senators Susan Collins of Maine, Judd Gregg of New Hampshire, Richard Lugar of Indiana, and Olympia Snowe of Maine. The Senate confirmed Kagan, 63-37, on Thursday, Aug. 5. Sen. Ben Nelson of Nebraska was the only Democrat who voted against the confirmation of Kagan.
The Golden Rule is found in the Gospels of Mark and Luke. In the Gospel of Luke, Jesus says during the Sermon on the Mount: Do to others as you would have them do to you.

What a tool. What a delusional tool.

Grahamnesty has gone bye-bye, is there anyone in the Senate with an IQ over say, 6?
I'm sure the Framers wanted Supreme Court Justices that would disregard and politically interpret the Constitution they wrote, aren't you?
His eyes must be brown because he is completely full of ...
See,
If Lindsey were a Saudi he’d be stoned for being a fag.
This guy is certifiable.
Linsey I am sure Jesus and the framers wanted someone who supports murdering unborn children in the womb.
Vanity of vanities, thou hast placed thy political career ahead of your Lord.
They don't!
Democrats have counted on the Republicans following the Golden Rule for decades. Republicans, when in power, always “reach across the aisle” and gurgle slop about “bipartisanship”. All they are really doing is compromising to their own detriment. But when the democrats are in power? Their way or the highway.
And after this past year, when Obamacare was rammed through and the Republicans were ignored, mocked, excluded and derided...the most partisan, hateful, one-sided legislative assault in recent memory...Lindsey Graham still doesn’t get it??? He is beyond laughable.
It’s not the “Golden Rule” Jesus had in mind.
It is:
“Whoever has all the gold makes all the rules.”
Graham is an idiot. I doubt Jesus would approve of abortionist judges.
Dear Lindsey:
Is there no limit to this man’s perversion?
That he is an elected official conclusively demonstrates that there is something terribly wrong today in the US political world.
Gosh, I hope he doesn't hurt himself.
