Sixty-five years after dropping an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan, and killing more than 140,000 people, the United States will send its first ever delegation to a ceremony commemorating the attack.
On Friday, U.S. Ambassador John Roos will join representatives from 75 countries at the Hiroshima event, but he is not expected to speak. World War II allies France and Britain will also send delegations to the ceremony for the first time.

It should also be a powerful reminder to not attack the US.
/facepalm....and the apology tour continues........
I really have no problem with sending a delegation to the event, but lets not pretend these weapons were just dropped for the hell of it.
The bombing of Hiroshima saved 50 times the lives lost of Japanese that would have died in a land campaign to defeat the Empire on the Japanese mainland.
Plus a million American casualties.
America was the best thing that ever happened to Japan. Look at modern pictures of Hiroshima if you don’t believe it.
2012 cannot come fast enough. I'm tired of this non-American moron embarrassing us all of the time. KMA Barry! Take that crap back to Kenya or Indonesia when you go.
“A visit to Hiroshima is a powerful reminder of the destructiveness of nuclear weapons, and underscores the importance of working together to seek the peace and security of a world without them....”
You never hear anyone whining about the hundred plane raids which dropped thousands of bombs and killed as many as Hiroshima do you?
That is because we used ONE plane and killed the same ammount. Just after the Nagasaki raid we hit Tokyo again with conventional bombs, killed tens of thousands and no one says a word.
Thank you TRUMAN! My dad didn’t have to go to Japan after fighting across Europe with Patton’s Third Army!
That guestbook post makes it sound like we just hit them to hit them. 60,000,000 people died because of the Japs and Germans.
I wonder if the Japanese will be sending a delegation to Nanking?
Brilliant!
If nuclear weapons are outlawed, only outlaw nations will have nuclear weapons.
I guess this rules out a TRIDENT submarine port visit.
Mourning, sayinng sorry, moment of silence......those things are free.......and buy more good will then any aid or any other peace mission would.
I think world is pretty clear on what happens when you awake the gentle giant, so they won’t be confusing this presence as US going soft.
So in my view, this is pretty harmless. 99% of the people outside Japan won’t even hear about it.
Big friggin deal, the japs lilled more people in nanking China than were killed in both cities and they did it the old fashioned way.
along the lines of “very sorry your miliarist government
made this unfortunate bombing necessary”...
The bombs not only saved Japan from invasion, it also saved Japan from being divided, like Germany, which ultimately would have resulted in a Civil War between the Communists and the US-backed portion of Japan.
The proper response: Dear Japan. I’m sorry your bombed us after we stopped prvoiding oil for your genocidal war in China. I’m sorry that you chose to try to take over the Pacific after a sneak attack. I’m sorry that you continued to fight after your navy was sunk and cities bombed. I’m sorry that you refuesd to surrender. And I’m sorry that you made us nuke you. But be thankful because if not for the 2 nukes, Kyushu and Honshou might have been as destroyed as Okinawa and tens of millions of Japanese would have died.
Will we also send a delegation to Tokyo, because the fire bombings there killed over 100,000 too. What? Its not about lost lives? Then whats it about.. Oh, the “N” word...
;o)
Nuclear attack sites are all radioactive for thousands of years!!!
