Gun safety training leaves much preparedness to be desired(barf alert)

As a first step toward getting a permit to carry a concealed handgun in Virginia, I recently completed a state-approved firearms safety class. Might as well get my Roscoe and shoulder holster ready because I nailed that test.

"Let's say I'm walking alone on a street, minding my own business, got my legally concealed handgun and a lady comes out of nowhere and attacks me with a butcher knife," said Jim Reynolds, a National Rifle Association certified gun safety instructor who conducted the class. "Would I be justified in using my weapon?"

I'd almost forgotten about that particular threat -- the crazed butcher woman out of nowhere. Terminate with extreme prejudice, Jim.

"But what if she's next to a school and there are children on the playground behind her?" Reynolds added. "Is that a shot I want to take?"

Someone in the class said no, "try to disarm her instead." Another advised: "Just run away." And all I'm seeing is two classmates down -- one stabbed in the front, and the other with a knife in the back -- when all they had to do was pull their gats and smoke that dame.

Jeepers creepers, I can't wait to get my concealed gun permit.

The firearms safety class was held this past weekend as part of a gigantic gun and knife show at the Dulles Expo Center in Chantilly. At first, I just wanted to learn more about the Virginia law that went into effect last month allowing concealed-gun permit holders to go armed into restaurants and bars as long as they don't drink.

Who, besides a trained law enforcement officer, would even want to do such a thing?

… when seconds count to save your family or yourself the Police are minutes away!

We recently had a case in nearby York County.
A man was angry at his ex. He grabbed her at work (a Wal-Mart optical shop) and held her at knife point. Every time someone looked at them through the glass he stabbed her. The store was evacuated, police called. SWAT arrived. The hostage negotiator went to work. The woman had been stabbed several times and was bleeding from a number of wounds. The SWAT team watched. The man was arrested without injury. She’s in critical condition.

This guy's been reading too much Mickey Spillane.

It's a way of making fun of himself while trying to make fun of us.

Oh and btw, some of those trained LEO’s if they ever do arrive aren’t too handy when it comes to those type situations.

And/or, may stay outside crouching behind their cars when they DO arrive, cause, you know, there's people in there shooting guns!

Open carry is legal throughout New Hampshire, with the exception of specified locations (e.g. - school grounds, courthouses) that are also prohibited from concealed carry. I have carried openly on a number of occasions without incident, although my preference is for concealment.

Being a walking unarmed target leaves much to be desired.

Fixed it!

Courtland Milloy is an idiot and to stupid to attend a firearms training class. And heaven help us if he actually touches a gun.

I just wanted to learn more about the Virginia law that went into effect last month allowing concealed-gun permit holders to go armed into restaurants and bars as long as they don't drink.

Once again, the Washington Compost displays the stupidity of its columnists. It's been legal for many years for Virginians to go armed into a restaurant that serves alcohol and even drink with open carry - whether they have a concealed carry permit or not.

The new law merely allows concealed carry permit holders to carry concealed in an establishment that serves alcohol. Before, they had to shift to open carry or leave the firearm in the car or at home.

And there are no bars in Virginia, the closest we have is restaurants that serve alcohol.

I'm glad I went to go check out the article. I had assumed it was that infamous DEA agent shooting himself. Yeah, reading comprehension goes down after midnight :-)
