James Tibbets, son of Brig. Gen. Paul W. Tibbets, Jr., seen here, says Friday's visit to Hiroshima by U.S. Ambassador John Roos is an act of contrition that his late father would never have approved.

Why the hell would we apologize?
The attacked us.
We ended it.
(sorry they were upset about our monopoly on oil but that’s life)
BTW, if you do it again, we’ll be back.

The bombs saved millions of Japanese lives in addition to the American lives saved. Not that they’d ever admit it.

When I visited the USS Arizona Memorial in Hawaii a few years back (1990's) I was struck (astounded, actually) by how many Asians there were there...many of whom appeared to be older.I don't know if they were Japanese but it seems likely that many were partly because Hawaii was a *huge* tourist destination for the Japanese back then.As I was there one thing I wondered was "are they here out of some sort of shame or remorse or is it a victory lap for them?"
Obviously I don't know the answer to that,but....

It appears that, at least in THIS case, the apple didn’t fall too far from the tree. Paul Tibbets was a patriot first and foremost and SO IS HIS SON. He saw through Hussein’s attempt to play politics and apologize to the world for using the bomb and winning the war!!!!

Paul Schalow, a professor of Japanese at Rutgers University ... speculated that Roos' visit could be a step toward positioning the U.S. to condemn any future use of atomic weapons, perhaps by North Korea. "If we show some regret of our own use of the weapon, if it happens again, we're in a moral position to criticize," he said. "As of now, we're not in a position to denounce it."
Great critical thinking by one of our esteemed perfessers. We have no moral position to criticize North Korea using the bomb because we used it, even though we used it to stop totalitarianism, and NK would be using it AS totalitarianism.
Hey, wouldn't want to take a moral stand, right perfesser? Gotta go crawling back into the playpen and declare: "all violence is wrong, no matter what the reason."
Which is why this perfesser would never, say, dial 911 in a home invasion, because the cops might be violent to the rapists of his wife and daughters. All violence is wrong. If you resist, the violence is your fault. America hasn't been perfect, so America deserves to be damned and destroyed.
Treasonous communist bastards should be kicked out of the country. Let em go find nirvana somewhere other than the America they loathe so much.

...just Odumbos way of reducing America in history.Without researching the matter and just speaking off the top of my head, as they say, I can't recall a single instance in which Zero has said or done anything that was designed to reinforce or highlight as exceptional (in a positive way) anything about America or American history.
There were a few broad, lukewarm generalizations in speeches which were obviously stated because he felt he had to, but anything of a specific nature has always been focused on denigrating America and marginalizing it in history.
Hopefully, 2010 will herald a grand awakening of patriotism in America and will be an election year much like the Great Flood.
I can hardly wait.

If we had the same criteria and agenda as the mosque at 9/11 ground zero,
the “delegation” would be going to Hiroshima to plant a victory flag.

Japan was a big tourist destination back then and post cards of Pearl Harbor were for sale at every souvenir shop. They were used by Japanese pilots to identify their targets. The ones of Battleship Row were of great help to the attack force. Were we asleep or what?

I know that my dad and the rest of the 94th ID was in the process of getting ready to head to the Pacific theater when they got word of Hiroshima. According to what my dad told me-on many occassions-there wasn't one member of his division that had a problem with the dropping of the bomb. As far as I can tell, these guys would have elected Tibbits President if he'd wanted it.

I have no problem with the U.S. sending a delegation, so long as it's clear that they are not there to apologize, but to gloat. Like during the minute of silence (or whatever) instead of bowing their heads, high five and fist pump. Instead of wearing funeral garb, they should wear Hawaiian shirts and shorts and carry highballs with little umbrellas in them.
If called on to speak publicly, say something to the effect, "Was the A-Bomb, like awesome, or what? I mean you guys all wanted to die for Emperor, but when we accepted your proposal, you folded like a cheap umbrella."

Funny you should ask.
In the late 1990s one of the retired Military guides (Fiske?) who was actually there during the bombing, and who you see on the History Channel, told me that the Japanese tourists come late, when the park is about to close, as to not be the focus of potential anger and or offend the other tourists

I stood under and walked around the Enola Gay at The Air and Space Museum. All I could think of was, thank you Gen. Tibbets, knowing that we have a “balless wonder” in the White House who would never allow great men to do what must be done.
