A suspected marijuana grower who was fatally shot by a Mendocino County officer Tuesday once lived in Santa Rosa, was married, had a 4-year-old son and also had a prior criminal record.
Angel Farias Hernandez, 24, leveled a rifle at law enforcers as they entered a huge marijuana garden in remote northeastern Mendocino County, Sheriffs officials said. Law officials seized 11,635 marijuana plants from three gardens in the area following the shooting.

It can be pretty dangerous to go into the wilderness areas of the coastal ranges these days. It's not just Mendocino and Humboldt counties either. There was a huge pot operation (run by illegals) in west Marin County on public land right next to the Pt. Reyes National Seashore.
If they would legalize the stuff and sell it in pharmacies, it would have the effect of de-funding the drug gangs. There also would potentially be fewer "no-knock" warrants. Law enforcement could divert effort to drug interdiction of the really nasty stuff.
The lessons of history, show that alcohol prohibition created a culture that allowed criminal activity to flourish.
My position is; the state will never be able to eradicate illegal substance abuse. They've been at it for about 40 years now, with no visible success. On the contrary, the failed WOD has increased the police state and accelerated the erosion of citizen's constitutional rights. I believe the time has come to try a different tact.

The leftist eco-weenies aren’t really about saving the erf.
They are simply anti-capitalist and anti-Western culture.
Throw in some anti-Christian sentiments and pagan earth worship, and you’ve got them pegged.
“Angel Farias Hernandez.” 2 last names = illegal alien.
Take a look at Prop 19.
Tending to 11,000 plants takes more entrepreneurial spirit than any CA public servant has ever had.
That’s weird. I thought I read about the same story only in Morgan Hill, within the last month.
Prop 19 gives the state the right to invade every aspect of the now quasi-legal pot industry in the name of taxation. It's a clawback of the rights Californians got in '96.
Yeah, if Prop 19 passes, will Atty. Gen. Holder sue California under federal supremacy?
If you remember, Prop 187 - denying welfare to illegals in California was overturned by the judiciary, but that was the California Supremes. Same argument though - it was a duplication of federal law.
Now I’m waiting to hear how a pervert judge is going to rule on Prop 8 - queer marriage. Anybody know what the Vegas line is?
Pot plantations are everywhere in California. I’m not sure about this, but I get the sense that the majority of them are operated by the same people who are providing the bloodbaths in Mexico.
Yeah when I remarked on the story I know of a few weeks ago, to a friend, he said the cops were getting rid of the criminals to make way for “Honest” growers.
LOL
Fine, let ‘em tax the heck out of it. Doesn’t bother me a bit.
From an article on the history of the income tax:
In 1868, Congress again focused its taxation efforts on tobacco and distilled spirits and eliminated the income tax in 1872.
However, it would be naive to hope that a tax on marijuana would allow a roll back of other taxes.
Yeah, American jobs for American citizens!
I wonder how many unemployed US citizens would be happy to have a landscaping or house painting job right now?
Hmm... California Department of Pot and Recreation?
I believe CA will legalize on Nov 2nd via Prop 19 and CA will lead the way in ending this new prohibition.
Once that occurs, 49 other states will follow within a decade...with LEO fighting all the way.
Everyone is thinking that this new $50 tax is going to get collected at the point of final sale. But that would leave the door wide open for continued small scale private production and untaxed sales. The tax will actually get collected at the point of production and packaging, and the producer will have to pay the tax and get a stamp in advance, just like tobacco. Prop 19 is going to put all the small operators out of business.
“Your papers please.”
“Oh, never mind. You’re dead.”
Mendocino - where life’s such a groove you blow your mind every morning
You know, I think from the perspective of solving violent crime, we should grow and tax pot.
I don’t personally believe there will be more tokers if it is legal.
There are potheads and there are drunks.
Then there are the social tokers and drinkers.
