The Missouri referendum on Proposition C garnered 938.782 votes in total, including 667,680 in opposition to ObamaCare and 271,102 in its favor, for a lopsided victory of 71.7% to 28.9%.
By contrast, only 898.784 votes were cast in the four primary elections for senator.
We have seen in the past how referenda can drive voters to the polls. Many believe that President Bush's victory over Sen. Kerry in Ohio in 2004 is directly attributable to the referendum on same-sex marriage that was a hot-button issue after the Massachusetts court held that there was a constitutional right to same-sex marriage.
In my opinion, we NEED to research the laws of the various states and identify those where a referendum can be placed on the ballot for November. A vote against ObamaCare could be a significant incentive for voter turnout, and my assumption is that many of those who would decide to make the extra effort to get out and vote would be Constitutional conservatives who want to protect our freedoms, rather than advocates of the Democrats' socialist platform.
If anyone has information about their state's laws regarding referenda (when do petitions have to be filed, how many names have to be on them, etc.), please post it here.
Some will say there’s no point to this kind of thing, as it’s not binding, etc. But maybe there’s another reason.
I was reading a summary of Alinsky’s “Rules for Radicals”, aka the Obama playbook. It dawned on me that we are idiots if we don’t turn their own weapons against them, within ethical boundaries of course.
For example, consider the following three “rules”:
1. Power is not only what you have but what the enemy thinks you have.
5. Ridicule is mans most potent weapon.
6. A good tactic is one that your people enjoy.
Think about the “Alinsky power” of holding a referendum on Obamacare in the rest of the 57 states (sic) just like Missouri did yesterday. Granted it would not pass in eveyr state, but what a tool for ridiculing the worst law ever enacted by the most partisan Congress and left-wing President ever!
What if we turned our anger and frustration over Obamacare into creative energy to RIDICULE it?
Ridicule is a man’s most important weapon.
My favorite example is Mel Brooks’ treatment of Hitler.
During World War II there was a lot of ridicule of Hitler, including the popular song, “Der Fuehrer’s Face”.
I agree with what you are saying about ridicule, but I think that the advantages that this may bring to voter turnout are the most important reason for moving forward.
I would think the congressional elections will be the referendum
>I would think the congressional elections will be the referendum<
Your right, but they have a point. people who are upset may just sit at home as usual figuring what will their one vote count for. Whereas if you put a referendum like repealing Obamacare up they will feel that they are getting their voice out in a manner that can be used to take back what has been lost.
make sense?
