He drew up a challenging course that encompassed asphalt, cement and dirt roads in and around the village of Watkins Glen. The dream became reality on Oct. 2, 1948. For five years, the top names in American sports car racing visited the small village and huge crowds came out to watch them race. Competition moved to a temporary course in 1953, and 2.3-mile permanent circuit was built in 1956. The following year, The Glen hosted its first professional race, a NASCAR Grand National stock car event won by Buck Baker over Fireball Roberts. The circuit itself was expanded in 1971, as the 1970s brought a wide variety of competition to The Glen, including the Can-Am, Trans-Am, Six Hours, Formula 5000 and CART IndyCar Series. Race winners included many of the top names in international motorsports, including Mark Donohue, Mario Andretti, Jody Scheckter and Bruce McLaren. ![]() Track Facts Banking/Turns: -- Distance: 2.45 miles Shape: Road Course FRFL'ers - Deadline to select your drivers is Aug 7 2:00am PDT The FR Canteen 24 by 7 |

How many votes is SoTx going to get when I can only vote once?
The California escargot (banana slug growers association) should sponsor this race. The “Heluva Good California Slimy Escargot at slippery slidy Watkins Glen”
I think of you every time I have to dump the Banana Slugs out of the dogs food dish...
Vote until your mouse belly ups . :-)
Dear leader Zer0 proclaims everything right is now left. Watkins Glen is declared left-left-left-..... all de wayz around.
I guess I should feel honored to be thought of in this way??? Slugs being such higher life forms and all that! What kind of dogs do you have?
Thanks Norm!
It’s a good dip by the way heh.
Well , Bully for you! urrr, uhhhh.. ;-}
I don’t have any dogs but my First Wife has a English Pointer that tripped her up 2 weeks ago today and she fell on her right elbow breaking the socket end off the Ulna. Doctor Saw Bones drilled and wired it together like any backyard mechanic could have done for $98.56...
Thanks, as a kid, I graded a mini-Glen track in an area of our farm that got used for gravel and sand for a nearby freeway.. It was maybe 1/10th scale or so.. never got to race karts on it though.
