Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner acknowledged that it is still a "tough economy" for most Americans, and warned it's possible the unemployment rate will go up for a couple of months before it comes down as more people enter the labor force.
When they see a little hope that there may be jobs out there, they start to come back in again. And that can cause the measured unemployment rate to go up temporarily," Geithner told "Good Morning America's" George Stephanopoulos in an exclusive interview. "But what we expect to see, and I think most forecasters expect this is an economy that's gradually healing, gradually strengthening, businesses starting to add people back."
The economy is not rebounding as quickly as Geithner and the Obama administration would like, he said. Last week's economic report card showed the Gross Domestic Product grew at a rate of 2.4 percent, slower than it had earlier this year.

The corrupt commie pigs 0b0z0 & Geithner, voted for worse before it gets better....in their dreams of course! Socialism ALWAYS destroys any economy at the local, state or federal level.
Your friend should come and see the lines at the food pantry I drive past on my way to work... where they hand out emergency boxes of food stocks to people newly unemployed. Five years ago, I would see one or two people there in the mornings maybe once or twice a week. Now there is a line that stretches down the sidewalk and out into the street every morning that they are open.
Sounds like a broken record.
Well, it could be worse. (success as defined by osama gang/junta)
Geithner was FOR unemployment, before he was AGAINST it. Oh, wait, where did I hear that before?

Does that mean the numbers won’t be unexpected any longer?
Tim is in there BECAUSE he is an incompetent stooge. He says what he is told to say.
It’s only a depression when the gooberment fails to take the proper corrective action. When I was a kid and Carter was in there, I believed this BS. Now, having seen Reagan create a GENERARION of prosperity, I KNOW that the answer is not some mysterious secret, it just doesn’t fit their agenda. So it ain’t happening.
They are not “incredibly intelligent.” They may not be as stupid as we portray them to be, but there are a lot of slow-brained idealogues in this administration. Just look at the brainiacs he’s put in the department secretary positions.
So they squandered how many trillions and all we get is this?
My bete noir is that a lot of people are working off the books whenever possible.
Actually, this is a true statement. What he doesn't want to acknowledge, however, is that he just admitted the current unemployment figures are artificially low because they don't count the unemployed who have given up looking for work.
Unemployment money ain’t jack. It’s not enough to pay rent and eat with, much less any other expenses like having a car. That’s the part I don’t get, that nobody mentions this. It’s like $200 a week, maximum. Unless it’s gone way up and I didn’t know, which is possible.
Unemployment will continue to go up... until Republicans take back control ... then it will go down.
Depends on the state, but it runs from about $250 to $550 per week (2009 numbers).
Agreed. But if you also get a welfare check/ss/disability check to pay the rent a center (no credit check) 165 inch plasma TV bill and groceries and even a free limited use cell phone why would you return to work?
If I tried ANY of the above I would be in jail or minimumly turned away.
To boot...there are Obama incentive jobs locally at the county and state level that a white (non minority) person does not ‘qualify’ for because you must show you make under $4000 a year. So... these jobs sit and the non minority is screwed at a sweet DMV or county job.
Oh. It has gone up then. Figures. It was like $189 max last time I had to collect. I was like, DUDES, I can’t live on this amount. Not even close. Well, it was a good incentive to get a job.
