Groups says they support "religious freedom" and "tolerance."

Following protests against the planned construction of a mosque close to the site of the former World Trade Center in New York, Washington-based left-wing group J Street launched a petition Monday in support of the project.

A statement on the organization's website said: " Appalled by the opposition to plans by American Muslims to build a community center in lower Manhattan modeled after Jewish Community Centers (JCC's) and Y's all over the country, J Street is collecting petitions in support of religious freedom and against anti-Muslim bigotry.

A letterhead outfit staffed and funded by a Soros/Arab nexus supports building a mosque?

I think religious liberty would be preserved if a mosque were to be built elsewhere in lower Manhattan. I see this as sort of a time, place and manner regulation that is allowed for street demonstrations.

Islam is different. No other religion seeks to overthrow the government (Constitution) and institute an Islamic theocracy in its place. I know this is controversial, but religious freedom should not extend to Islam in the USA because it is a threat to the Constitution. No other group is permitted to exist and operate freely if it represents such a threat. . . . IMHO

J Street (unlike many alleged conservatives) is defending property rights and the first amendment in this case. Those who spit on property rights now, will be begging consistent civil libertarians to defend them when their rights are threatened...but it may be too late by then.

The socialsts and fascists are also against our constitutional traditions. According to your theory, we should also destroy their first amendment and property rights. Just watch out because you will be left alone and isolated when the Obamaites do the same to you!

And according to your theory, Nazis should have been allowed to build recruiting centers and monuments to won battles in NYC during WWII. Same thing.

The Consitution isn’t a suicide pact.

They “defend property rights” when it suits them. They’re Arab funded socialists who want nothing more than to see Israeli Jews enjoy the peace of the grave.

From their website:

We oppose the occupation of the West Bank and the expansion and entrenchment of settlements there. We also oppose encroachment on Palestinian areas of East Jerusalem which must be part of a future Palestinian capital if a two-state outcome is to be achieved. We support loosening the blockade of Gaza, since – in addition to the humanitarian concerns it raises – Israel has smarter, more effective ways of ensuring security through monitoring rather than blocking imports into Gaza at secure crossings. We oppose governmental and NGO expenditures beyond the green line to the extent that their purpose is to expand and deepen the settlement enterprise.

These aren't property rights supporters. They're flag-of-convenience Death-to-Israel folks.

...Madison’s experience at Princeton and his struggle against persecution of Baptists in Virginia had convinced him that “toleration” was an invidious concept. It was, as Thomas Paine later put it, “not the opposite of intolerance, but...the counterfeit of it. Both are despotism. The one assumes to itself the right of withholding liberty of conscience, the other of granting it.”
Madison therefore sought to have the noxious word stricken from the declaration and to prepare the way for complete liberty of conscience and separation of church and state in Virginia...

Just imagine, it is September 11, 2012 and during the reading of the names, of those who were slaughtered...............they are drowned out by a over amped P.A. system broadcasting the muslim call to prayer!

How would you feel?

They may build this building but I doubt it stands very long.

“J Street is a new one. Who cares ? Why should I care? How about reefdiver opposes.”

Main street opposes it, and will take its wrath out on politicians who allow it in November.

J Street is collecting petitions in support of religious freedom and against anti-Muslim bigotry.

In a related "religious freedom" story, the building of Jewish or Christian places of worship is still outlawed in most Islamic countries. We are still waiting for a comment from J Street regarding this development.

"but religious freedom should not extend to Islam "

The mosque at Ground Zero is not even about the religious freedom. That place is a symbol. What would a mosque there symbolize?

No religious group would attempt to build a house of prayer next to the White House precisely for that reason. They seek a symbol of Islam's dominance, which is their stated goal.

Sure build it in DC then.

Nah. They'd want to tear down the Lincoln Memorial and put their mega-mosque it that site.

No mega mosques in this country. Anywhere.
