Title IX Revenue Provisions—Subtitle A: Revenue Offset “(Sec. 9002) Requires employers to include in the W-2 form of each employee the aggregate cost of applicable employer-sponsored group health coverage that is excludable from the employee’s gross income (excluding the value of contributions to flexible spending arrangements).”

Now, why would the IRS want the ‘aggregate cost of applicable employer-sponsered group health coverage’ on the W-2?

Suggestions?

I have no doubt that they want to charge income tax on employer provided health insurance. They just don't have the law to do it... yet. One big problem for them is that the people who would be hit the hardest are union members and government employees. Those who they really want to hit (the eeeeeeevil rich) have enough money where they can just buy catastrophic insurance (for when you need a Cheney-style steam powered heart) and join some type of medical negotiating service to get the insurance company rate for procedures they pay for personally.
