Criminals To "Run Wild" After East St. Louis Slashes Its Police Force
Business Insider ^ | 08/01/2010 | Business Insider

The town of East St. Louis -- over the border from St. Louis in Illinois -- has always had a reputation for being horrible, and having a police force that's been unable to cope with the criminal element. And now budget problems look set to make things worse, as the city has been forced to reduce its police force.

Saint Louis Today: Rev. Joseph Tracy said he’s tired of going to funerals. And now, he suspects he’ll be going to more of them.

"It’s open field day now," said Tracy, the pastor of Straightway Baptist Church here. "The criminals are going to run wild."

Gang activity. Drug dealing. Cold-blooded killing. Tracy worries that a decision to shrink the police force by almost 30 percent will bring more of everything.

Of course, being in Illinois, there's not much state support on its way, as the state is one of the worst in the nation, fiscally.

Sounds like its gonna be a target rich environment zone for the armed, law-abiding citizens!

Pay bounties, and the problems will subside quickly.

I guess every large city has an area like that,,,

West Shreveport,La. is mostly a no-go zone at night,,,

It got so bad I sandbagged a corner of the living room,,,

Took rounds through the windows,,,

3/8” steel on some,,,

Cops there are worthless for the most part too...

Yeah, they’ll lay off the cops, but not the 200 union employees who empty waste baskets...4 times a day.

Big cities are simply a bad idea.

When Parlor Marshal Colin Powell began bleating about “urban values”, I laughed so hard my sides hurt.

The "end justifies the means" seems to be the rule, but that never seems to get them anywhere. In the long run Tom Jefferson was right.

"I view great cities as pestilential to the morals, the health and the liberties of man. True, they nourish some of the elegant arts; but the useful ones can thrive elsewhere; and less perfection in the others, with more health, virtue and freedom, would be my choice."

Thomas Jefferson

**** The downtown area was 100% blighted with most of the buildings boarded up. A vast majority of the mom and pop family businesses were gone.***

Can’t blame that on Walmart! They were only had about four stores in Arkansas at that time. ;-)

Now, what happened to destroy E st Louis?

Late 90s???
It was a hellhole back in the late 60s.
Perfect proof of what a democrat welfare state can do over time.

Couple of cool old buildings there. If they got rid of the hip hop crowd and welfare families they could probably turn it into something useful. Well , I guess the hordes of the useless and the junkies need to live somewhere. Build a wall around it .

In my mind, E. St. Louis is the perfect example of what happens when corrupt politicians take over. They destroy a city and it’s taken over by the criminal element.

I've highlighted some of the most liberal cities that just so happen to be on the most dangerous cities list. Most cities on the most dangerous list also just happen to be democrat strongholds.

We drove past a police station which had a fenced yard packed full of squad cars since none of them were out on patrol. You could literally drive on the wrong side of the road and run stop signs and red lights since there was no legal authority at all. It was a very sad and scary portrait of a failed welfare state.

I wonder why the Libertarians and Cop Haters don't move there. It sounds like their version of paradise.

“Now, what happened to destroy E st Louis?”

Because I am not plitically correct I will tell you. White flight! But of course everyone on this thread already knew what had happened. Guess I must be a racist.

Ha, it was a hellhole back in the early 60s! I am somewhat amazed that anyone would be a cop there. It’s a no-man’s land and has been for decades.
