Greene makes watchdog's 'crooked' list
By DANIEL STRAUSS | 7/29/10 12:09 PM EDT

Alvin Greene has been South Carolina's Democratic Senate nominee for less than two months but already a Washington watchdog group is nailing him as one of the most "crooked" politicians in the nation.

Greene, the political neophyte who came out of nowhere to win the Democratic nomination to face GOP Sen. Jim DeMint, made the good government group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington’s recently-issued list of the "most corrupt and unethical candidates vying for federal office in 2010."

The “crooked candidates” list focuses on office-seekers “who have engaged in unethical and, in one case, even criminal conduct," according to CREW.

Greene, who has been the subject of intense media fascination since the June 8 primary, is the only one on the 11-candidate list who has neither held nor run for elected office before. Eight Republicans, 2 Democrats and 1 Independent were named.

CREW noted it had filed a Federal Election Commission complaint that Greene failed to file a statement of candidacy, statement of organization, and pre-primary reports.

“When Mr. Greene won the primary he had engaged in no fundraising, had no website and had no organized campaign,” CREW wrote. “Given Mr. Greene’s apparent lack of funds, CREW and others raised questions about whether someone had paid the $10,440 fee to file as a candidate with his own money.”

CREW also explained that it named the South Carolina Democrat to its list because of a 2009 obscenity charge.

“Alvin Greene is on there mainly because he’s facing a felony charge,” Deputy Research Director Robin Powers said. “Why would you want someone representing you who’s facing criminal charges right now? Americans deserve a better candidate than Alvin Greene.”

“If you can’t even file your statement of candidacy, why should you be running the country?” Powers added.

Greene told POLITICO that he didn’t deserve to be on the list but that DeMint does because of the senator’s failure to reduce unemployment in the state.

“What’s wrong with me using my own money?” Greene said. “I think my opponent should be on this list. He’s not doing his job and he doesn’t care about South Carolina or the United States of America.”

Coming soon: Alvin Greene, the movie
By Michael Calderone
Thu Jul 29, 11:50 am ET

Alvin Greene didn't stop to chat with reporters who recently trekked to Manning, S.C., to watch his first campaign speech. But the Democratic candidate did talk to Leslie Beaumont after the event.

That’s because Beaumont and writer David Garrett are making a documentary on the unlikely Senate hopeful: “Who Is Alvin Greene?”

There’s been no shortage of Greene coverage lately. As The Upshot reported Monday, Greene received more media attention than any 2010 candidate in the six weeks after his unexpected primary win. However, Beaumont says the documentary will provide another perspective on the unlikely candidate.

“It’s more about this evolution of this private citizen seeking higher office,” Beaumont told The Upshot. “I wanted to show a side of him that hasn’t been seen.”

Both Beaumont and Garrett live in Los Angeles, and they have never made a campaign documentary. The filmmakers became interested in Greene after he came out of nowhere to win the primary.

This is an excerpt.

Such a hoot that this bumbler, stumbler of a candidate made it onto the Dems ticket. When near morons can become a candidate for the Senate you know that the ‘un’equal opportunity pendulum has swung far off its hinges here in the bizarro world of politics.

The posted article borders on plagiarism .. parts sound like stuff written about Obama a couple of years ago. Like he came out of nowhere and funding sources.

Now it's about Mr. Green so.. Racist!

No wait.. the Dems don't like Green so it's not racist. It's OK to disagree with him.

The Dems have no problem with him being a psycho or a criminal. Their objection is that he’s not able to express himself.

Wait...its all so confusing....the Dems DO like Green but they DON'T like Greene. They support the Green economy but not the Greene candidate. Are we in a'Green'e'ment yet?

CREW are the crooks. They say they included Alvin because they speculate he may not have used his own money for the filing fee when there is no evidence to the contrary, and they say he is facing federal charges, when no charges have yet been filed against Alvin.

Take a look at their list of “crooked” candidates:

* Roy Blunt (R) U.S. Senate, MO
* Charlie Crist (I) U.S. Senate, FL
* Jeff Denham (R) U.S. House, CA
* Alvin Greene (D) U.S. Senate, SC
* Jeff Greene (D) U.S. Senate, FL
* Timothy Griffin (R) U.S. House, AR
* J.D. Hayworth (R) U.S. Senate, AZ
* Ed Martin (R) U.S. House, MO
* Kendrick Meek (D) U.S. Senate, FL
* Dino Rossi (R) U.S. Senate, WA
* Marco Rubio (R) U.S. Senate, FL
* Allen West (R) U.S. House, FL

Kind of funny Maxine Waters and Charlie Rangel aren’t on this list, don’t you think.

CREW is just another left-wing front group for the Rats.

So where's this mysterious "list?"

I don't think so! Jeff Greene, the Dem candidate challenging Kendrick Meek for the Dem nomination for U.S. Senate seat in Florida is on the list also. He's a newcomer to politics as well.

Bingo. The ‘RAT leadership want Greene gone, but they can’t act directly because the rank-and-file like him; therefore, the give him lip-service support while attacking him through proxies.

My prediction is that Greene actually picks up around 35 percent of the vote in November.

But let’s go through another imaginary scenario. Let’s say that Jim DeMint comes up with a corruption problem or some heart attack between now and November. Would Alvin pick up enough votes to win? My guess is yes.

35% sounds about right. In any case, DeMint is very popular, and would have to be caught in flagrante delecto with an underaged male goat for Greene to have a chance.
