Lisa Murkowski battles for GOP hearts as Palin grows louder in Alaskan expanse (RINO alert)
Washington Post ^ | 7/30/2010 | Jason Horowitz

..."For all Sarah Palin's nationwide recognition, the first name in Alaskan Republican politics is still Murkowski. Actually, it's Lisa.

For all Sarah Palin's nationwide recognition, the first name in Alaskan Republican politics is still Murkowski. Actually, it's Lisa.

But Palin, who took the governor's mansion from Murkowski's father only to prematurely relinquish it last year, finds Murkowski lacking. Despite Murkowski's "mama grizzly" cred as a mother of two teenage boys and the state's most prominent female official, Palin upset the Republican establishment in June by instead endorsing Joe Miller, a stubble-cheeked and baritone-voiced conservative who is good buds with her husband, Todd.

"It strikes me as odd," Murkowski said.

The endorsement has complicated the race for Murkowski but has also created an opportunity for clarity. After political observers have spent months scouring races nationwide for evidence of Palin's right-wing reach vs. the staying power of bring-home-the-bacon Republicans like Murkowski, it turns out that the ideal testing ground may be the women's own Alaskan back yard." " "Murkowski was a handshaking machine. Behind her, campaign workers gave out candy to little kids holding yellow bags sponsored by BP that read, "Alaskans for Litter Prevention and Recycling. Keeping Alaska Beautiful." The aides shook their heads in exasperation as Murkowski kept falling behind to chat with voters.

"I hope you beat Miller!" shouted Mary Demientieff, 60, as she shook the senator's hand. "Thank you, I'm working hard," Murkowski replied.

"But I'm a Democrat," Demientieff said as Murkowski marched on toward the rubber-duck float, which had overheated and broken down.

Demientieff explained that she appreciated Murkowski's moderate Republican politics.

"She wouldn't want to hear that, but I respect her for that," she said. "She's different. I like her more than her father."

On the bridge, they bumped into Hollis French, a Democratic candidate for governor, and his wife. The two couples talked warmly about family and the time Murkowski's duck, to her mortification, came in first and she had to donate the prize to charity. As Murkowski hung over the bridge to see duck No. 4,139 cross the finish line, French mocked current Republican governor and Palin loyalist Sean Parnell for refusing to back Murkowski in the primary.

"She's going to be around for a long time," he said of Murkowski. "The state likes her and she's in a position of power."

Down the road, Murkowski bumped into Ethan Berkowitz, another Democratic candidate for governor and a friend from Murkowski's days in the state legislature. They joked about his graying hair and gushed about a former Murkowski intern who had gone to work for him.

According to Berkowitz, who commissioned the poll that showed Murkowski 32 points ahead of Miller, the departure of Stevens from the political scene meant "a recalibration of what politics we need and practice," and that while power had been dispersed, Murkowski was "at the top of the list of the people who assume that mantle." "

*****************************************************

My Comments: Why does a far left extremist JournoLister Leftwingnut Jason Horrorwitz who also is a current WaPo left wing Obamabot go to Alaska? Lisa Murkowski has NOTHING to do with it. It has everything to do with the fact that the Left and the White House are apoplectic that Palin will add Murkowski to the list of extinct RINOs, as she prepares to dispatch Obama in 2012?

I had to put only the relevant portions in the post, because the entire article is a a stiflingly boring puff piece about LISA.

Several points in the article:

Number One: Horowitz observes that the Murkowskis are the first family of Alaska politics but for some strange reason she is running as Lisa (without the last name). Maybe Lisa is not as confident of their "first family status" as Horowitz, the left wing East Coast expert in Alaska GOP primary politics.

Second Point: Notice how chummy Lisa Murkowski is with the execrable Dem and Palin hater Hollis French who criticizes GOP governor Sean Parnell for not endorsing Murkowski over Miller and endorses her himself in the GOP primary!

Third Point: The push poll that showed Murkowski 32 points head of Joe Miller was commissioned by Ethan Berkowitz, another Democratic candidate for governor and a friend from Murkowski's days in the state legislature. This is the same Ethan Berkowitz who ran for Lieutenant Governor on Tony Knowles' ticket against Palin in 2006. Berkowitz endorses her as well and it notes that he has just hired one of her staffers.

Conclusions: The conclusions to be drawn from this article are twofold:

1)Murkowski is a Dem, and a thinly veiled one at that. She remains part of the same rotten Establishment that Palin took an ax to. This article should be spread to all Alaska freepers and conservatives, as well as to Palinsitas nationwide. She should be outed.

2) The MSM and the leftists in the White House are trying to make this primary a referendum on Palin. Every Palin supporter who can get to Alaska to help Miller, or help him in any other way, should do so.

Funny how when it’s a hit piece on a Republican they always seem to find that “life-long Republican that voted for W” and the hates the Republican. In this case, they even found some hippie rat trash that loves this rino.

“In this case, they even found some hippie rat trash that loves this rino.”

Someone should have told Horowitz that it is a closed primary . Murkowski’s popularity with the Dems will do her no good at all. It will probably do her harm, if it becomes widely known.

Surely Murkowski knows this. She isn’t that dumb, is she?

“She probably thinks this is the Murkowski seat.”

2006 should have taught her something... Slow learner, I guess.

So how many red-blooded Alaskans read the Washington Post, or give a steaming moose turd about any of its writers?

Happily very few. But for the benefit of those Alaskans who show the good judgment not to read it, I am posting it to show just how much the WAPO (as well as Alaska Democrat hacks like French and Berkowitz) love Murkowski.

From June 23 - Miller has close to 4,000 Facebook friends, including Alan Keyes, Tom Tancredo and Loren Lemen. A few Alaska politicos, including Anchorage Mayor Dan Sullivan, are playing it safe by being friends with both candidates.

Yep. The Ayotte story that Palin's endorsement has hurt her backfired. Ayotte is actually leading and is expected to win the primary.

So it's on to Plan B. This is a 4-page essay, which explains the desperation of the ComPost.

Primary is August 24. The only poll was the fishwrap push poll commisioned by the Palin hater Ethan Berkowitz some weeks ago that showed Murkowsi ahead by 32.

Iron indeed. Sarah Palin beat Frank Murkowski 51-19 in the GOP primary in 2006. Let’s see. That is 32 points.

Why am I inclined to disbelieve Berkowitz’s push poll, which seeks to measure strength in a GOP primary. The last Murkowski to run in a GOP primary got creamed by the same political force that has endorsed Joe Miller. Hmmm...

I hope the Compost story is spread all over Alaska by email so every GOP primary voter knows what he gets by voting for Murkowski.

“Continuity is very, very important,” said Young, who is supporting Lisa Murkowski. He added that upon her appointment in 2002, he made Murkowski promise that “she would serve no less than three terms.”

O, my goodness! The chutzpah of these people really does know no bounds.
