Ahmadinejad reminds the world of Iran’s capacity to trigger a regional conflagration.

President Ahmadinejad has a penchant for the somewhat loony, as when last weekend he denounced Paul the Octopus, omniscient predictor of eight consecutive World Cup matches, as a symbol of decadence and purveyor of “Western propaganda and superstition.”
But for all his clownishness, Ahmadinejad is nonetheless calculating and dangerous. What “two countries” was he talking about? They seem logically to be Lebanon and Syria. Hezbollah in Lebanon has armed itself with 50,000 rockets and made clear that it is in a position to start a war at any time. Fighting on this scale would immediately bring in Syria, which would in turn invite Iranian intervention in defense of its major Arab clients — and of the first Persian beachhead on the Mediterranean in 1,400 years.

This may be Obama’s wild card he plays right before the election.
How does it redound to his advantage?
It would be very surprising if Obama, Podesta and Soros were willing to use US military force to attack Iranian nuclear facilities.
On the other hand, they may decide to sacrifice their principles on the Iranian matter in order to maintain Obama in his position of power, and support a joint strike with Israel.
Obama no doubt will be sorely tempted at the last minute to order US forces to attack Israel instead of Iran.
Heh...heh...Paul the Octopus has more revalance than Muhammad....
But hear me out (hope I can put this down right).
Tin foil first. I believe this administration has "handlers" to the tune of $$$$; not grand conspiracy.
Outside that, this administration has shown time and again to make short sighted decisions and over-bearing with them. I would not be surprised in the slightest if the "strategists" in this administration look at Iran as Carter's failure in America's mind. Blame the Bush Administration for somehow not righting that; then attacking Iran thinking they can score a quick win and show everyone wrong!! w00t!
Only problem is, they make snap decisions and won't complete the task. Iran; as much as we like to dis them; will have a say in this as well. It will spell all sorts of disaster and we'll STILL have Obama at the helm for two more years compounding it. ("IT" being economical, shipping, terrorizing whomever. Bottom line, Iran will make everyone's lives miserable and a butt load of blood will be shed all the while the idiots who started it all will come out physically un-scathed!).

I sure didn't. And, no question, it is NEWS. Big news.
Did the state-run media avoid mentioning this development in order to "protect" their Supreme Leader from "undue pressure"? Or embarrassment?
Offered him the chance to show he's a strong leader...or show he has no control over the defense establishment.

This country’s tendency to rally around the President during war. He then uses his “popularity” to campaign in the close races. If this is the strategy we will hear more drum banging in the next 60 days with the strike in late September. Gives 30 days to leverage campaigns. My guess is it won’t happen because of his base issues—his base wouldn’t rally around war if Iran dropped a bomb on New York City and the Dim’s are going to need their socialist base if they have any chance at all of stopping a total November melt down at the polls.
Here is the heat I wish Iran suffered: dozens of nukes sent there by Israeli planes and missiles. There that will do it.
I should've heard about this remarkable statement.
Yet, this is the first I've heard of the Aspen comments regarding Iran by the UAE Ambassador -- which are fraught with significance.
The Aspen conference was attended by a host of mainstream reporters -- many of whom were involved in the panels.
Yet, there wasn't much made of the Ambassador's comments.
But the fact that he made them was big news. The fact that they weren't widely reported is even bigger news.
