Will Washington's Failures Lead To Second American Revolution?
IBD Editorials ^ | July 30, 2010 | ERNEST S. CHRISTIAN AND GARY A. ROBINS

The Internet is a large-scale version of the "Committees of Correspondence" that led to the first American Revolution — and with Washington's failings now so obvious and awful, it may lead to another.

People are asking, "Is the government doing us more harm than good? Should we change what it does and the way it does it?"

Pruning the power of government begins with the imperial presidency.

Too many overreaching laws give the president too much discretion to make too many open-ended rules controlling too many aspects of our lives. There's no end to the harm an out-of-control president can do.

Bill Clinton lowered the culture, moral tone and strength of the nation — and left America vulnerable to attack. When it came, George W. Bush stood up for America, albeit sometimes clumsily.

Barack Obama, however, has pulled off the ultimate switcheroo: He's diminishing America from within — so far, successfully.

He may soon bankrupt us and replace our big merit-based capitalist economy with a small government-directed one of his own design.

He is undermining our constitutional traditions: The rule of law and our Anglo-Saxon concepts of private property hang in the balance. Obama may be the most "consequential" president ever.

The Wall Street Journal's steadfast Dorothy Rabinowitz wrote that Barack Obama is "an alien in the White House."

If all of the people that are currently oppressed by this government shared a common geography, bullets would already be flying. Hmmm, I think I will make this my tag line.

...no revolution...eventually, though there will be wars of secession and partition....we’ve already had three 1776,1835,1861...it’s about time for another...if I were betting on it I’d say it will start in the Southwest.

This is what Nixon did in 1973. We put up with that. This is not what forced him out of office (ever notice how the liberals hate a republican liberal?).

The old line that we have not fought an enemy within our borders is dead. We are at war and it is with the whitey house and Washington.

Nixon and others may have exerted executive powers unwisely but I don’t think most of the time they did it with malice and the intention of destruction. obastard is, does and will continue to do so until he is removed. After him the slime in the house and senate need to go followed by judges and a whole gang of bureaucrats. We have allowed the enemy in our house and it is time to clean.

I just shot a snake in the yard. As he slithered to escape I thought of how snakes were condemned to slither on their bellies by the Lord. It always feels good getting rid of a snake. But seeing a snake always makes my skin crawl.

Absolutely spot on. The GOP will usher in the next revolution. The politicos just don’t have it in them to do the right thing.

I’ve never heard all the talk of revolution and civil war that I hear these days. Of course, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a President literally laugh at, belittle and mock opponents/citizens like I’ve seen in the last two years.

The circumstances exist. It just seems like people would rather be owned by the government than get up off the couch and do anything to stop it.

It will never happen. There are way too many people now dependent on the system. If they stop getting their checks, all hell will break loose. No matter how big the revolutionary force is, no way could it subdue the urban classes.

We’re on our way down the path, and we put ourselves here.

Enjoy the ride....

‘the mood in this country is anti-incumbent’

No it isn’t. It is anti-THE OTHER GUY’S CONGRESSMAN, and ambivalent to my own incumbent.

Reid will have a tougher time getting reelected, but he’ll pull it off if he’s within 3%.

In WA, Murray is a lock, even though nobody is writing that. So is Rick Larsen in WA-2. Everybody in Western WA with a D near their name at the national office level is going to be just fine.

When Gregoire runs again, she’ll win again.

Do not underestimate the fact that the only people hiring right now are government agencies. What do you think the Stimulus was in the first place?

If Obama get get the felons back their ability to vote, and Amnesty is passed, then you are looking at permanent majorities for Democrats.

The only reason why D’s are pissed at Obama at this point is because he turned the heat up a bit too fast on the frog, and now HE KNOWS HE’S BEING BOILED. Obama and Pelosi are of the mind its too late to do anything about it. (Too late to appeal health care, right?)

My personal belief is anyone who is historically knowledgable understands revolutions eat those who start them and nobody wants to be point man.

A good friend of mine likes to say now, “There will be no problem until the first federal worker gets laid off”. Perhaps he is on to something.

Nixon was a pussycat compared to the evil, whitey-hating bastard now occupying the WH. His blackness is protecting him from usual scrutiny; otherwise, he would have been taken out of office by now.

“Nah. When a Republican is in the White House, this nonsense talk will stop.”

When was the last time a Republican (including Regan) reduced the size of government?

I think we’ll have no revolution.....until the government defaults and cannot back the welfare checks.
Then, cities will burn, and it’s “game on”.
