No Proof in New Black Panther Case: Official
Says No Evidence Supports Charges by Right-Wingers That Obama Admin. Refuses to Prosecute Blacks for Breaking Vote Laws
By David S Morgan
WASHINGTON, July 25, 2010
(CBS) A Bush appointee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights denounced allegations by some pundits that the Justice Department is refusing to pursue a voting rights case against members of the New Black Panther Party because of race, and suggested that the charges being made by right-wing figures are politically motivated.
Conservative broadcasters and websites have claimed that the Obama administration is dropping prosecution of New Black Panther activists who were videotaped outside a Philadelphia polling station on Election Day 2008, making intimidating remarks; one man was carrying a nightstick.
Earlier this month former Justice Department lawyer and Republican activist J. Christian Adams testified to the commission that senior officials in the department are not applying voting rights laws in a race-neutral way, by refusing to press charges against African Americans on these issues.
A recent Media Matters investigation has debunked charges that the Obama administration withdrew criminal charges against the Panthers (in fact, the Bush administration decided not to pursue criminal charges, with Assistant Attorney General Thomas Perez testifying that the Bush Justice Department "determined that the facts did not constitute a prosecutable violation of the criminal statutes"; a civil lawsuit was filed in the last days of the Bush administration, and a judgment won by the Obama Justice Department in May 2009).

Bush’s fault.
Black Republicans were said to have turned away and didn’t vote.
And OJ was not guilty. Of course, I understand. It is perfectly clear.
Actually this woman’s appointment IS Bush’s fault.
liberals win a damned election and the exexcutive branch is filled without exception with the hardest left kooks.
Republicans win one and the executive branch is 3/4s filled with people who want to get along with the hardest left kooks.
There was testimony that they had gone inside and menaced a republican challenger. Outside they had commentary going towards whites who left the polling place.
There was testimony about their threats that were documented in the DOJ case. It must be somewhere on line.
To suggest that it is racist to object is ludicrous.
The left is shameless in it’s exploitation of the race issue.
They should have come out screaming if that happened.
The Panthers’ purpose wasn’t just to intimidate the white voters; it was to demonstrate to law-abiding black and white residents that, in Philadelphia, the Panthers are untouchable a proposition the Justice Department has helped them prove.
But what about the Panthers’ intimidating uniforms and jackboots. Don’t be silly, Thernstrom now counters. After all, “the boots were no different from a pair my husband owns.” Oh, I see: How could anyone think these friendly Panthers who were heard telling spectators, “You’re about to be ruled by the black man, cracker” were any more intimidating than . . . Stephan Thernstrom, That’s the first thing that popped into my head upon reading about Panther leader King Samir Shabazz serenading blacks with enticements like, “want freedom? You’re gonna have to kill some crackers! You’re gonna have to kill some of their babies!”
These guys? Oh, these guys....they are men who did not have time to change clothes from their Halloween party a few days before - that's not a night stick - it's a super sized clark bar /sarc
Since when is 'Media Matters' in charge of federal investigations?
Notably absent from her website bio is the part in bold from the govt. website:She serves on several boards, including the Institute for Justice, and from 1992 to 1997 was a member of the Aspen Institute's Domestic Strategy Group.
Digging themselves an ever deeper hole.
“Worst case of voter intimidation he had ever seen.”
I think you’re referring to Bartle Bull, looooong time civil rights attorney going back to the ‘60’s in the South, worked with RFK and Fat Ted, and eye witness to the event.
In the linked clip he says:
“Martin Luther King and Robert Kennedy did not die to have uniformed thugs blocking the doors of polling places with weapons. This is the first time in our lifetime that the administration is protecting the abusers instead of the voters...because they want to maximize the vote — intimidate poll watchers, allowing illegal ACORN voters to vote.”
Beck’s right. Our Republic is dead. Needs CPR, fast.

Does this headline refer to the alleged spitting and use of the “N” word at the tea party rally on the day of health care passage?... Oh wait, my bad.. This must be about the video at the polling place which clearly shows a Black Panther holding a weapon.. Sorry..
What about the VIDEO-?!?! Are these people STUPID, or BLIND-!?!? Do they think WE ARE-?!?!?
Seeds for the new revoluation have been planted.
LOL! This is the same Bob Schieffer that deliberately misstated the Arizona law when “interviewing” Eric Holder a few weeks ago, and who claimed in an on-camera interview a couple of weeks ago that he had never heard of the Black Panther case.
Now he’s “interviewing” some other Obama shill, giving them unfettered national air time to blatantly lie about there being no other evidence than the video tape. DOJ has reams of sworn testimony about this case from multiple witnesses, independent of the video tape.
Wonder why Bob didn’t ask about that? Is he going to claim ignorance of the basic facts once again? If so, this old fogy needs to be put out to pasture pronto before he starts drooling on camera while he gums his applesauce. On the other hand, NBC may simply have turned Face the Nation into the “All Obama Administration Propaganda Show”. You decide.
Amen to that!
I say send bikers.
