Local law enforcement was bombarded with calls from across the country Saturday asking about a report that the Zetas had taken over two ranches off Mines Road.
But officials with the Laredo Police Department, Webb County Sheriffs Department and Border Patrol said they knew nothing about such an incident, while Erik Vasys, an FBI spokesman in San Antonio, said the agency does not comment on rumors.

If this is a takeover, who the heck owns (deed) the ranch(es)? I’d want ‘em off my ranch, pronto.
I agree...something doesn’t smell right here. They are not saying this story is false in any unequivocal manner at all.
on Facebook: Tea Party Patriots: LAREDO UPDATE: Fox News Reporting border violence between two cartels in Nuevo Laredo, possible spillover unconfirmed.
Send in the AF to have a look see.
In other news from the wide open border:

OK, it’s been ruled a hoax by an out of state blog.
Wouldn’t put it past Los Zetas anyway, they had a running gun battle with our deputies a while back and we’re 170 miles from Laredo
Yes there is border violence and possible spill over at times. In fact Laredo had a bullet or two break windows on their side of the border just a few days ago. But that doesn’t transcrib into the taking over Texas ranches. That would be big news and couldn’t be supressed imo. Where are the owners of these taken over ranches? Where is Gov Perry as this would be a Texas State violation of private property.
Another article has these ranches some 10 miles NW of Laredo and in the same para had the location South of Laredo. They can’t even keep their landscape correct.
This 10,000 acre spread is very near the area in question:

If I were a reporter down there, I would contact the landowners in the area to get info instead of the police.
Ping!
Conflicting stories re: the Zetas taking over a ranch near Laredo.
FYI..from what I know of this part of Texas, many of the ranches are leased out for hunting and people don’t live on them 365. It is very rugged out there. Not real familar with Laredo, but the Del Rio area is like that. Googling around with Google Earth I found a 10,000 acre lease very near this area. There might not be anyone out on the lease this time of year.
I just went to the Laredo Times website and the locals are pissed that apparently none of the “journalists” there have taken the time to ride out to the site and verify one way or the other whether or not the zetas are there!!
I believe the article said there were TWO ranches so why couldn’t they be miles apart, one NW and one South?
When definitive answers are not forthcoming (”unequivocal” was the word you used) from government officials, the usual reason involves a coverup of some stripe. EVERYONE knows this. So, why can we not get an unequivocal answer to a simple question easily confirmed? Your guess is as good as mine.
Our national security is in the hands of Sergeant Schultz.
Maybe the reporters don’t want to be in the obituaries.
They are all probably corrupt or intimidated. Welcome to life on the border now. This is really sad and scary. My son went to a large ranch near Del Rio and the border a few week-ends ago. I worried about he and his friends the whole time they were gone. They ended up in a flash flood, but came home safe and sound. It’s really getting out of hand down there. Texas isn’t as bad as Arizona yet but it’s getting there.
Our “officials” are always the last to know anything. You can even tell them something; and, they still don’t know. Arrogance and stupidity is a terrible combination.
