Today is my own contribution to raising funds for Free Republic - "Musselman Challenge 2010"! For those of you who are wondering what it is:
In 2003, I urged FReepers far and wide to pledge any amount they wished for every mussel I ate. Some pledged a nickel. Some pledged a quarter. Some pledged a dollar. In the end, I managed to down 101 of the little shellfish, and Free Republic won too.
To see the history of the original Musselman Challenge:
For more info on this year's challenge:
In about an hour and a half, I will head over to the local chinese restaurant and try to beat my own record of 101, all for the great cause of raising a little cash for Free Republic. After all, in these trying times, we need FR, and each other. I have been a member of FR for over 10 years now, and I don't know what I would do without it.
So, here's your chance to get involved. This is the OFFICIAL LIVE THREAD for Musselman Challenge 2010. There's still time - get your pledge in now and ping your FRiends. I will be posting from the restaurant while we are there, and will also be posting pics.
Get on board! If you haven't donated to FR yet, now is the time to do it, and have a little fun while you're at it.
Of course, all proceeds at the end of the challenge will go directly to FR via the method you choose. I don't get your money, just your laughs.
What are you waiting for?
102+ Mussels
The obstacles:
1. The mussels at this new restaurant are about twice and in some cases, 3 times the size of the ones from 2003.
2. Less than a week ago, I had 2 wisdom teeth pulled, and the side of my face is still a little sore.
3. I woke up this morning with a bit of an upset stomach (to put it delicately). This is going to be interesting.
The prize:
The ability to sleep at nite knowing FR will be around thanks to donations made by you!
I'm game. Let's do this.
Ping!!
Current combined pledge amount is $3.00/mussel (adding all pledges made to date). Can we make it to $5.00 by the time I start?
Woo hoo!! Go dware!!
Oh this is good.
I wondered what happened to you.
Forgot your FRhandle but never forgot the mussel eating contest.
For some reason I remembered it as Oysters.

Ok back to the action or reading of the prelims.
"da key is, don't chew"

We will have live updates. My little netbook and verizon aircard are making the trip with me.
Hey we are on a frugal budget so can’t pledge allot how about 25 cents a mussel to add to the pot.
Salvation feel like pinging the Catholic Ping Lists?
This is a down memory lane event.
I have to work at the last minute tonight, I’ll miss the live commentary, so good luck!
Good idea.
Will there be someone at the event to do that?
And yes, I will have my laptop and aircard with me at the restaurant for posting of live updates. Speaking of which, my wife should be here any moment to pick me up so we can head over to the restaurant.
Let the games begin. Just sat down with my first plate of 20! Pics to follow as soon as I can get my laptop and camera to interface right.
Great!
