Major Hollywood studios threatened by Teamsters pay dispute
The union, which provides drivers who haul equipment to film sets, is expected to provide a strike authorization vote from members.

Hollywood's drivers and the major studios continued last-ditch contract talks late Friday in an effort to avoid a head-on collision.
The local Teamsters branch, which represents drivers who haul equipment to film sets, has been negotiating for a new contract with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, which bargains on behalf of the major studios.
But a major stumbling block has been a dispute over pay rates for more than 3,000 Teamsters drivers. Barring a last-minute compromise, union leaders are expected to seek a strike authorization vote from members Sunday. Crafts workers including electricians and laborers also are participating in the negotiations.
If members of Local 399 grant a strike authorization often sought by union leaders to gain bargaining leverage a walkout could occur as early as Aug. 1, when the current three-year contract expires.

IOW, bail out of California as so many other businesses have done.

Union strike against Hollywood? No big lose there
The ‘Rats will reign them in. They need their favorite propaganda outlets (aka the movies and teevee) too much to let the unions kill them off.
They produce mostly trash films, so I see no great loss. In a time of economic depression it is DUMB as a box of rocks to go on strike. Of course they will immediately apply for food stamps and medicaid.
Snort :)
Just to put this in perspective. My sister’s boyfriend is one of these drivers. He makes $30+/hr with a guarantee of 10 hours a day. This does not include his full medical and 401K
Damn, that's almost slave wages. /s
O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
Anyone wonder why so many US films are made “on location” in foreign lands?
Unions.
My soon-to-be-ex-husband is a member of Hollywood #399 and is as conservative as they come. He is not happy about this threatened strike at all. Just the mention of a strike reduces up-coming production tremendously and in turn hurts a lot of hard working families that do not support the union’s political agenda.
