BEIJING Record-high water levels at China's massive Three Gorges Dam have called into question Beijing's claims that the world's largest hydroelectric project could withstand a 10,000-year flood.
The water level reached 518 feet (158 meters) Saturday morning, just 55 feet (17 meters) from the reservoir's maximum capacity of 573 feet (175 meters), flood control headquarters in the central province of Hubei told The Associated Press.
Water could go higher with China's national weather center issuing a warning Saturday of more torrential rains for the region through 8 a.m. Sunday.

OK, so how do you say “Bush’s fault’ in Chinese?
According to Babelfish, you got the “Oh” part fine.
16 million out of 1.3 billion people. They’ll make up for that in a year’s time easy!
Now they did this, why? to get hydro energy?
How many nukes would China need to match the output of Three Gorges?
O Fen!! (for the first character)
Ay ya!! (for the seccond set of characters)
I read of an American geologist who was with this project at the beginning. But after studying what the effects of flooding would be to the porous mountains in the area, he pulled out with a warning. I’ve been up and down that river and in that dam area three times.I cry for what they are doing.
Last year they had a problem with the lack of water.

Now it is too much.

Isn’t that thing starting to show cracks?
We may scoff and laugh, but to imagine 16 million souls lost in an instant ... hard to imagine, hard to take as a Christian.
"The consequence of failure at the Three Gorges Dam would rank as historys worst man-made disaster. More than 75 million people live downstream on an intensively cultivated floodplain that provides much of Chinas food."
O Fen Ay Ya! What follows, a karate chop?
Christians don’t say much about the 200 million lives that were snuffed out by the Leftists during the 20th century. Then the millions of unborn every year not just in this country but around the world.
Too much, BUT as long as they can let the excess flow past the dam, no problem, right?
Unless the unusually large inundation results in fluidization of the soil and loosening of the dam structure’s anchors, as with Katrina and the levees in New Orleans.
Not sure about what you mean?
Graphic on flooding in China. China -- already reeling from deadly floods -- is braced for a potential new deluge on the Yangtze downstream from the huge Three Gorges Dam as its reservoir's level hit a high for the year. (AFP Graphic)

I agree, scoffing and laughing over the potential immediate deaths of any number of people is lacking civility and human decency, yet... I must ask, given your last words - are you a Deist? (Luke 13:4-5)
Isaiah 45:7 "I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things."
You take all of the people who died at the hands (both for and against the likes) of Hitler, Mao, Stalin and the many other Leftist dictators during the 20th century and the number reaches close to 200 million. Chinese researches several years ago were up to 177 million. I figure they have found more by now.
The economic consequence would also be beyond catastrophic - the ensuing flood would destroy numerous cites with all of their industry and infrastructure. China would convulse with social upheval in the wake of this catastrophe. It's possible that China would do what it has always done when its dynasties and regimes collapse - revert to chaos and warlordism for a time.
Regardless Gods reasoning, the loss of life is still nothing to smile about. And no I’m not a Deist. If I were, I wouldn’t care about the potential loss of life. I’m just a Christian that mourns all loss of life even if it is God’s will. Just call me an old softy.
