North Korea said it would counter U.S. and South Korean joint naval exercises with “nuclear deterrence” after the Obama administration said the government in Pyongyang shouldn’t take any provocative steps.

North Korea will “legitimately counter with their powerful nuclear deterrence the largest-ever nuclear war exercises to be staged by the U.S. and the South Korean puppet forces,” the National Defense Commission said, according to the Korean Central News Agency.

Not so hilarious for our men & women in the fleet.

Not in the least. Kim Jong Il's stock in trade however, seems to be over-the-top bellicose rhetoric.

Unprovoked nuclear attack would mark him as a loose cannon that needs to be immediately dealt with, even to his friends in the neighborhood.

From what I have read, Holliday was actually an East Coast Dr. before he developed consumtion (tuberculosis), and moved to the desert for the dry climate...

But, that is just what I recall.

If true, his speaking Latin makes perfect sense.

Also, when he dies, he is recieving last rights from a catholic priest - and if he were an Educated catholic of the time, Latin would be required.

Ete, misse est.

Couldn’t Obama just have NASA reach out to NK and make them feel good about their contributions? It seems like the logical thing to do...

There was a thing on history about the saloon owners mine the dust that fell through the floor boards.

Also, the saloon drove the invention of the beer fridge - it seems it sold beer like crazy.

He was a dentist. There were serious physicians, and then there were other grades of medical practitioners in those days. Not sure how much Latin they would have had to learn.

Maybe a specialist in period medicine could chime in.

I had the same thought, but.............we shouldn’t back down from them. Hopefully our fleet has the permission to do whatever it takes to defend themselves and us. If they have to wait for the idiot in Washington to decide, it could take a few weeks.

Not to worry. The Fleet does not need permission to defend themselves, and believe me, they are well prepared and thoroughly armed to exactly that. If anyone in NoKo was foolish enough to shoot at one of our ships, it would be the last warshot to ever originate from that spot on the globe ever again.

Stout hearts.

I did not know he was a dentist.

Still, Catholic Mass was still in latin, when I was a kid...

And latin was required at Catholic schools beginning in Kindergarten.

Oh, “Res Publica” := “that thing of the people” := the rule of law

It was the Roman rule of law, engraved in stone, in the public square

“Quod licet Jovi non licet bovi” := “What is legal for the gods is not legal for the cows [people]” := “I won.”

In that particular moment, ANY Latin would do. :-)

As someone else said, I would be more concerned about something from under, and/or some sort of exocet. The “right” move from NK would be a shot across the bow, but one that would be easily defeated. That would put O in the position of having to make a “reasonable” response.

And then he would look very weak.

Bring it on, you bandy legged little tinpot dictator. Lob one of those bastards at us, and your Chinese Masters are not going to like you threatening their gravey train, no matter how much they want to avoid a billion starving North Koreans flooding over their boarders.

Oh, wait. Obama. Well, it would work out for you; ten seconds after the first nuke, he surrenders and makes the U.S. a protectorate of North Korea.

This is a scary situation. The "Leader" has been losing his marbles and their is a power play going on. Here is a vid to give you an idea of just how totalitarian this country is. You will have to scroll down the left side of the site for the other two parts. This site is not meant for children, but this guy did a heck of a job getting information out.

Who cares if you nuke them back to the stone age. They already live in the stone age and survive off of bark, grass and rats. Check out The Aquariums of Pyongyang for a first hand account and the Freedom House PDF Report

The only ones who could reign in this madmen are the Chinese. Knowing what I know they wish it would just go away.
