Are you saying that both McCain and Palin assumed they were going to lose the race for POTUS, or that this was a hypothetical pact (almost as bad)?
no, I am saying that McCain was backed into a corner. He either went along with the “deal” or it would be used against him. McCain ,like obama had a backup plan just in case he lost.
