Bruce Willis in Die Hard: “Welcome to the party, pal!”
It’s as simple as, if he agrees with you on diversity, ask him for his vote when it is taken up in Congress.
Quit throwing out the good in search of the perfect. Use him like a two dollar streetwalker during fleet week. His vote is as good as any if it kills ‘diversity’.
Then he'll vote socialist for everything else. Besides, as another Freeper stated, what is he doing to get other Senators on board?
I'll say it again, "Talk is Cheap!"
Like every government program, end state objectives are NEVER defined. The open ended programs take on a life of their own, consume money endlessly, and run forever.
What a difference a day makes....
It is my understanding that the Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, Section 342, subsection (f) (as signed by President Obama on 21 July) states:
“Each agency shall take affirmative steps to seek diversity in the workforce of the agency at all levels of the agency in a manner consistent with applicable law. Such steps shall include (1) recruiting at historically black colleges and universities, Hispanic-serving institutions, women’s colleges, and colleges that typically serve majority minority populations.”
I would interpret that section as mandating that the Treasury Department, the Federal Reserve, and all other federal financial regulatory agencies provide recruiting advantages to people with the distinct disadvantage of having been forced to graduate from Sweet Briar, Smith, or Wellesley instead of Salisbury State or UNH.
It is also my understanding that the bill was passed by the U.S. Senate 60-39, with Senator Webb voting “Yea”. Given the closeness of the cloture vote and subsequent passage, it is not a stretch to say that he could have single-handedly prevented the enactment of this legislation, had he honestly felt as strongly about this issue as he portends - or should I say pretends - in this curiously-timed article.
This is not the Pinochle Dealers of Southwestern Virginia Act: this is perhaps one of the most expansive, pervasive and all-encompassing legislative acts ever enacted into U.S. law. Senator Webb certainly had to have been aware that this passage was included, if we are to believe that he is as truly interested in this area as he argues. I suspect, therefore, that he may have been aware and may have even made his case - which was rejected. In a stunning Mr. Smith Goes to Washington moment (NOT!), he then acquieses to the bill as is, then tail between his legs he casts his decisive vote,,,,and then writes this article to cover his posterior.
“I and many other Virginians are chomping at the bit for 2012 and the chance to fire him.”
*Chomping at the bit for ‘12* *chomp chomp*
“The dems can play all the Im gonna turn right moderate now games they want but it is GAME OVER”
I hate chameleons too. *chomp*
No kidding, Webb is as sleazey as they come. He’s trying to save his own self.
I haven’t forgotten Webb letting a man he called a good friend, take the fall for carrying Webb’s gun into the capitol building.
I can’t wait until that blue eyed white devil is out of the Senate. It would be sweet to see him replaced with a conservative woman or minority member.
I say no ‘diversity’ programs for any of them. I’m not of the green Irish. Webb’s and my ancestors are the ‘Natives’ who were here in the early 1700’s, settling the over mountain wilderness.
No offense to Paddy.
Webb is the kind of sleazeball who would turn on a dime and claim he was only saying it to guage how many racists supported him on it.
The man is unstable, only marginally better than Alan Grayson but Alan Grayson doesn’t write books about sex with children.
“Webb knows he will lose in the next election cycle”
You’re right. This is nothing but political posturing. He dosen’t really mean what he says, and wouldn’t say it in the first place if he didn’t have to.
There have been good Democrats before. Granted they are a lot fewer and farther between than ever. But for every Lowell Weicker, Arlen Spector or Lindsey Graham there is a Henry Jackson or Zell Miller...and perhaps a Jim Webb.
I can’t argue that. I’m with you. But on this, give the “devil’ his due.
Webb is obviously a racist.
I hope they do it.
He is shifting right OR he’ll be toast when he runs for re-election to retain his VA senate seat. Hope Allen runs and beats his sorry Azz....
"Dooooon't you belieeeve it!"
You DO realize that book is fiction?
“I and many other Virginians are chomping at the bit for 2012 and the chance to fire him.”
You bet we are and there is some firing to do this November:
