A new report says Minnesota's ethanol industry generated more than $2.5 billion in economic activity in 2009 and supported more than 6,800 jobs. The annual report from the Minnesota Department of Agriculture says ethanol production in the state increased to 862 million gallons in 2009 from 550 million gallons five years ago. It estimates production will increase to 1.1 billion gallons this year with an economic impact of $3.1 billion and around 1,500 additional jobs.

No mention of the damage to the Gulf caused by high nitrate fertilizer run off as a by product of over producing corn. I wonder why?

Did they factor in that it raised food prices nationwide?

Did they consider the amount of fresh water required to process the corn into alcohol?

So the net loss of energy caused by using more energy to produce this junk than it produces is good?

Good gawd, let’s get libs out of science. They are only good for the “studies” majors.

In 2009, Minnesota processed about 29 percent of its corn crop into ethanol. That's projected to rise to one-third this year.

Burn government subsidized food to run our cars. Brilliant!

How much of that $2.5 billion comes from the other 49 states via the federal government?

2.5 billion for 862 million gallons of ethanol - or about $3 for every gallon of ethanol produced? Doesn’t seem like a very economical method of producing either jobs or fuel.

While filling my gas tank recently I noticed a sticker on the gas pump I had not seen before: “ENRICHED WITH UP TO 15% ETHANOL.”

I thought to myself, what a lying bunch of crap THAT is! Adding ethanol to gasoline does NOT enrich it. It jacks the price up by several cents per gallon, AND, it lowers the miles-per-gallon, too!

Enrichment, my gluteous maximus! Ethanol in gasoline is more of a CONTAMINANT than an enrichment!

Nice to see you have portrayed the old body style Mack trucks in your cartoon. Even with Volvo now owning Mack, I am still a great fan of MACK TRUCKS!
