I’ve paraphrased slightly in the headline in honor of his immortal Gates/Crowley gaffe. Conspicuously and lamentably omitted from the clip below: The One’s thoughts on just what it is that’s teachable about this “teachable moment.” To see what the master wordsmith came up with in that vein, we turn to the ABC transcript:
“If there’s a lesson to be drawn from this episode, it’s that rather than us jumping to conclusions and pointing fingers at each other, we should all look inward and try to examine what’s in our own hearts and, as a consequence, I think we will continue to make progress,” he said.
That’s as vapidly safe a conclusion as one could possibly draw, which, given how many landmines the people involved in this story have already stepped on, is probably the wise way to play it politically. Speaking of landmines, retiring liberal lion David Obey would like you to know that he’s quite outraged at the “piggish character assassins” at Fox News who were so “eager to peddle” Breitbart’s clip by, er, not running it until after Sherrod was already fired.
Meanwhile, Media Matters might just have blown the lid off a vast right-wing conspiracy to push the clip on Monday, even though … none of the alleged conspirators, which include yours truly, were in contact with each other. In fact, I didn’t even e-mail Ed about the story until 6:30 on Tuesday night, shortly after the NAACP issued its second statement vindicating Sherrod. What can I say? The Journolisters may be pros but we, alas, are amateurs.

I am so sorry to admit this, but when I envision Obama trying to justify the WH response to Sherrod, the phrase ‘I’m dancing as fast as I can’ just pops into my head!
Does this mean Obama is rethinking the McChrystal firing?

I just listened to the entire Sherrod speech. Yeah, the story about the white farmer was just a little out of context snippet. The CONTEXT was the smug ramblings of a woman who encourages the black community to take advantage of entitlement programs and grab onto stimulus money while the grabbing is good. Her whole speech has an “us vs. them” tone. Yeah, she may think she had an awakening 24 years ago, but it’s clear that she still upholds the notion of “separate but entitled.” The white race is still the oppressor and the black “community” must stick together to make sure they get what’s coming to them. The USDA has 100 percent home loans for people who can’t afford to buy a house. Y’all better get on the bus! The government will loan you $20,000 at 1 percent interest to fix up your house and the payments are only like $25. You better get you some of this, y’all.
Yeah, I can see why Obama would apologize to this woman. She’s a true believer. Honest taxpayer would be disgusted by her attitude about government AT LEAST as much as they were offended by what seemed to be racism. And yes, it was racism, but it’s OK because she knows now that it was wrong. What she doesn’t understand is that she’s still fixated on race.

Wonder how long before someone starts demanding that Vilsack resign. I don’t think he should, but that’s the usual mentality.
