When conservative broadcaster Glenn Beck warned churchgoers to "run as fast as you can" if their pastors preach about "social justice," was he also encouraging them to run from the Bible?
That's what some progressive Christian leaders are arguing as battle lines are drawn for the 2010 mid-term elections. They say Beck and his Tea Party followers are, in a word, unbiblical.
Not so fast, say Tea Party activists, who claim biblical grounds for a libertarian-minded Jesus. He didn't like tax-based welfare programs, they say, and encouraged his followers to donate from the heart.
The insurgent Tea Party movement threatens to usurp the political prominence of religious conservatives, whose focus on hot-button social issues has been overshadowed by the Tea Party's fight against big government.

As for me,I'm a ,clinger;)
Wth do Washington Compost libs, who are not Christian, know about the Bible? Nothing, that’s what.
The Progressive Left is showing its fear.
Now these secular humanist aka marxist presstitutes are going to start lecturing us on how Jesus was a social justice marxist? Well, they do try that on occassion, and their allies have infiltrated many churches, but that dog won’t hunt.
“progressive Christian”-—= PHONY Christian!!
Whatever gets you through the night, I guess.
"I just have to look good I don't have to be clear."
We are a self-governing, constitutional republic, with a national government of limited and enumerated powers. It is the responsibility of every citizen to help insure that government stays within the constitutional boundaries of it's legitimate authority. That is not a libertarian philosophy, it is a republican philosophy.
Jesus said "Render unto Ceasar what is Ceasar's".
Sometime Ceasar is due an ass kicking.
I’m soooo confused. I didn’t know Progressives went to a Christian Church, nor that they read the Bible.
I wonder, was the American Revolution unbiblical?
It's great how they despise and fear Beck at the same time. Proof positive that he's onto their game. Social justice is simply marxism dressed up in biblical sounding terms. Every Thanksgiving Rush tells the story about how the Pilgrims made the same mistake of thinking the bible advocated socialism. They found out the hard way that when Christ called people to show charity and mercy to the least fortunate, he was talking about individuals doing it out of the goodness of their heart, not government coercing charity out of the masses.
DUH!! That's the point, ignoramuses!!
The church is over-taxed so doesn't have the assets to be as generous as it would like.
Why is there any incentive when the hungry are already fed by a welfare check coming out of our pocket?
Those “social justice” preachers are probably in the main-stream which has compromised Christianity to the point of denying the diety of Christ (as well as a whole lot of other heresies). RUN FROM THEM!
As for those who claim the Tea Partiers are unbiblical, well, that is just another instance of heathens deciding what is Christian doctrine and behavior and deciding we don’t measure up. They cannot “rightly divide” the Word of God and I refuse to give credence to their mouthings.
Seriously?
THIS is the best new attack they can come up with?
Other than that, I’m left speechless by the flaming stupidity of the ‘article’.
Secular liberals know as much about religion as they do about quantum physics.
Well no, of course the Tea Party movement as a whole is not umbilical. It’s the momma’s boys in the LSM who for the most part can’t bring themselves to cut the cord.
Wait, what? Oh never mind...
I think not.
I’m not reading any article lecturing me on my Christian duty in which the author shows a complete lack of respect for the Bible by not capitalizing it.
Look what happened with the Hebrew population when they signed on to Pharoahs social justice.
They ended up slaves to the Egypt.
Really appreciate Glenn. Love Rush. Have for years. But when it comes to naming names, displaying the evidence and sounding the alarm, I think Glenn is Paul Revere and George Whitefield rolled into one.
Glenn has warned about the big mainline denominations pushing the communist “social justice” line, and I had not heard or seen it.....until this weekend coming home from Ocean City, Maryland. Driving across Maryland, in the little village of Ellendale, MD at the UM Church, the big banner beside the church said: WHERE DO YOU SEE INJUSTICE? So it has filtered down to the grassroots!
What is a christian?.......................
