Couric’s Future Questioned at CBS

This past spring, CBS News president Sean McManus and executive vice-president Paul Friedman discussed whether to try to bring an end to what may be the last great experiment in network news: Katie Couric, anchorwoman. Though her reported $15 million annual contract is not up until next June, one idea that was floated was for CBS to buy out the remainder of Couric's contract this September and put in someone new this fall, according to people familiar with the conversation. Executives were perhaps also concerned about the bad publicity that might result from a long contract negotiation with Couric, especially if she ended up leaving. McManus didn't want to make an early move, and CBS CEO Leslie Moonves was also against moving so quickly. “Leslie is incredibly supportive,” one person familiar with Moonves's thinking explained. “Moonves and Katie have an excellent relationship.”

As if Couric or any anchor can salvage the sinking ship. They can't. It's about content, not presentation.

It is not her future that should be questioned; it is her present existence.

Agreed. But, her presentation is disasterous as well. Add in her partisanship, vulgarity and general lack of knowledge and professionalism and you have a lose/lose going on at CBS. I say Hurray!

TS

I’m sure if they gave Couric a different font to speak with she’d get massive ratings! LOL!

I'm old enough to remember CBS News with Douglas Edwards. Centuries ago, in another country, on another planet.

I do not watch ABC, CBS, or NBC news programs. They have shown themselves to be untrustworthy. Once you lose credibility, it is impossible to restore it. Not only that, but by the time these news programs are aired, it is old news. Why anyone watches them, including the libs, is beyond me.

My problem with Couric began when she wore black mornign dresses every time a Communist lost an election.

My wife does not like what I shout when we inadvertently hit the channel...Something resembling,

"GET THAT C ouric OUT OF MY LIVING ROOM NOW!!"

In her defense, it is kind of cute, the chirpy way she signs off, with "Death To Amerika!"

the last great experiment in network news:

What experiment? They’ve been putting bubble heads that are easy to look at reading news for years.

That old thing is still on the air? If CBS really wanted to do something bold, they’d dump their news altogether and put Conan O’Brien on there.

With the money they pay that idiot Couric they can hire 365 crack whores, white trash, and strippers and pay them each $30,000 to read a teleprompter for a half hour.

A new face every night, talk about ratings!

Pick up the phone and call Ailes...

The guy has more Hot Smart Babes than he has programming hours that would do the news better than Couric for a fraction of that overpaid airheads contract.

See if Christiane Amanpour is availaible. She’d make a great anchor. I for one would find her compelling and appropriate

Katie Couric had a freaking colonoscopy on tv...didn’t that give somebody a hint clue? She also has about as much presence and intellect as a toad. Besides who watches CBS anymore? They have made themselves null and void by being cheerleaders for the AyatollahO regime.

"“I’m Lindsay Lohan for cBS news, goodnight...and death to america”....has a nice familiar ring to it."

Frankly, Lindsey Lohan could do the evening "news" from her jail cell for any of the leftist "three-letter" phony news organizations and no one would notice the change. That's how much credibility they they have lost with the American People. Maybe they could have Lindsey read the "news" on Monday, Paris Hilton on Tuesday, Brittany Spears on Wednesday etc. On Friday they could get together and read the "news" topless --- and it would still sound the same as the current nonsense being palmed off as "news."
