Milwaukee Sewerage District Spills over 100 times More in One Day than the BP Deepwater Drilling Rig!
A listener on the Mark Belling show today pointed out that the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District dumped almost twice as much pollutants into Lake Michigan in one day as the BP Deep Water Horizon has in 70 days!
Milwaukee Sewerage District Spills over 100 times More in One Day than the BP Deepwater Drilling Rig!
BP worst estimate is 6,800,000 gallons per day for 70 days for a total spill of 476,000,000 (see Here)
The Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) dumped 759,600,000 gallons of raw sewerage into Lake Michigan in one 24 hour period on July 15 and 16.

True.
Where else, though, would you have them pump it?
Anyone eat Lake Michigan oysters?
Of course they had to pump it into the Lake. But the volume of the BP spill is so much less. It points out how inflated the flap is. BTW, Milwaukee could fix the dumping if it wanted to. They have combined storm and waste water sewers that overload and dump raw sewerage into the Lake when it rains too much.
One more reason a commercial asian carp fishery would never happen.

If you would like to be added or dropped from the Michigan ping list, please freepmail me.
We're halfway through a major CSO project here in Lansing. Yes, it's a hell of a hassle to have so many streets under construction in the summer, but as a fisher I can tell you it's already made a difference in the Grand.
So I guess Detroit, Buffalo and Chicago aren't the only ones stinkin' up the Great Lakes, huh?
what a load of s...
I thought the deep tunnel project was suppose to solve this decades ago.
Can’t blame me, I have a septic tank and drainfield. The tomatoes grow great over the drainfield.
BTW, Milwaukee could fix the dumping if it wanted to.
Well, not for free they couldn't. Matter of fact it would be downright expensive to redo the material infrastructure. Taxpayers would probably have to foot the bill
Sorry for hijacking the thread.
Back to your comment, YES.
The comparison between the two shows how the MEDIA can influence the public, and scare them to death with something that maybe only GOD could have prevented, while ignoring something that is repetitive and much, much larger, and can be corrected much easier and for a LOT LESS MONEY.
Total BS. While the MMSD “dumping” is huge, it’s mostly rainwater. After the initial flush, the water is returns to safe levels fairly quickly - unlike the Chicago Sanitary ship canal which is septic.
But while on the subject, how about the antique car ferry that dumps untreated coal ash into Lake Michigan. 12,000 tons of coal burned in 2009. All ash goes into the lake.

The deep tunnel was spec’ed to be much larger to meet Milwaukee’s needs, but the price tag was too high. The sewerage district protested but eventually took what they could get and built an undersized system.
The solution is simple - build a bigger system and/or separate the storm and sewage systems on the north shore suburbs.
Either that or stop dumping and have all of this back up into homes and basements.
Yuri Bezmanov warned us in the ‘80’s that the marxist’s first targets are the media and education. He also pointed out that there is nowhere else to run. Watch Leno’s “Jaywalking” episodes to get a flavor of our fellow citizens and voters. Our side lost decades ago, we are in the final stages of the aforementioned takeover.
I know.
It’s Yuri Bezmenov, btw.

You would think they could do a lot more to keep storm water out of the sewage system after all of these years.
It’s no difference than the ruling class people here in Daytona Beach who can’t fathom getting the crumbling wastewater piping system replaced. IT’LL COST BILLIONS! So what do they do? Raise rates dramatically, hire a bunch more people, and do nothing while waiting for the day that a major S***storm is unleashed on this city. How dare they come up with a plan to tackle the problem slowly but surely and methodically so that it can be taken care of? Just like here, Milwaukee could tackle the stormwater issue if someone had enough wisdom to do so.
Remember the old proverb: How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. Had MKE started on fixing the storm/sewer problem back in the 80s when they constructed the mammoth of all white elephants, they would likely have taken care of the problem by now, done far more to save the environment, and not wasted so much money. But that isn’t the way goobermint works, now is it?
Yep, if it was a private company they would have no problem in demanding they do the work right away and fine the hell out of them to-boot.
