I think there may be something to the idea that "artistic temperaments" have a difficult time in dealing with the real world. You have guys like Michelangelo, who scarcely cared for human company; preferring his studio and his marble. Beethoven was rude and short-tempered and drove his own nephew to attempt suicide. Van Gogh had fits in which he lost control of himself. Gibson may be cut from the same type of cloth.
